Anyone have any info on this? Looks like it's roughly a two month contract flying JFK-TIA on a 767-200 operated by Swift Aviation.

Last year it was Scanderbeg AIr, operated by some US carrier, then American Trans Air DC-10 before that, seems to be a lucrative market!

I think it's probably because of the high numbers of American military, NATO, and support staff which are still in the region. That's still a pretty big NATO mission going on, even after all these years.

Interesting. I had not heard about this, but then I'm neither in Albania nor in the US right now. Last year I heard that Scanderbeg had to terminate services early, but I don't know if that was because of low demand or some other reason.

Nope, nothing to do with this. There are no US forces stationed in Albania. This is due to VFR traffic in the Summer.

Well I knew they weren't in Albania but they are in the region -- I thought perhaps there may be logic for them to transit via Albania to get where they're going. If VFR traffic can sustain a daily 762 I'm very impressed! I suppose that with the large international community in the New York area it makes sense that they would want to go visit their families in the summer.

It's only 2wk, according to their website. I don't know what their breakeven is, but in the Summer the loads should be fine. Albanian VFR traffic is extremely seasonal with the vast majority of people visiting in the Summer when they can have a hybrid VFR/beach vacation. Most of the problems that I have noticed in the past with these charters had to do with their limited schedule. Many people chose a scheduled connecting flight over this (sometimes even at a cheaper price) due to schedule flexibility. The timing of one weekly flight did not work for everyone. Also if for some reason your flight got canceled (which happened at least once that I know of), you could not leave until a week later. Flying LH, OS or AZ (which carry the bulk of the US-TIA traffic was a lot more flexible and worry free. However, this time around the flight times are better, since the number of flights has doubled. Also, I really like the Friday departure from JFK and Sunday return from TIA, which will allow flyers from the US side to fully incorporate the weekends into their vacations. A full work week until Friday, and then return on Sunday in time for work on Monday.
