Now that Delta plans to tear it down, I wonder if they will make an attempt, as with many of the new European and Asian terminals, to provide good and open viewing. I can only hope so!! Let's hope it has better views than the new T5 at JFK.

Quoting cokepopper (Reply 3): I believe it is Delta's "hope" to start this summer. Mentioned at many employee meetings but
I don't think anything "official" has been announced.
about 3 weeks ago, I was at building 21 parking lot we were talking about the amazing look building 21 has there to T8,
we also talk how was Delta doing at JFK, and someone there told me there was going to be a big announcement at the beginning of May about T3 in fact he told me the Terminal was going to be finish by 2013.
Well since we have not heard anything else, I believe maybe they submitted the paper work to, PANY and were hopeful to get an answer by then.

Quoting Reggaebird (Reply 6): would be cool if they could save circular front structure for historical purposes.
Agreed. Does anyone have an idea of when it will start? Summer is high season for JFK-Europe. Seems like DL should wait till after the summer rush is over (mid-Sep at least).
I definitely want to fly out to see the WorldPort one more time before she goes.

Wait. Did you take the videos from the defunct Pan Am Rooftop? I thought they closed it down to everyone since the mid-80's. Please don't tell me there's been a spotter's area all this time.

The roof top of the "Worldport" has been closed and last I know had a double or tripple chainlink fence (probably prison spec.) for about 20 years. Probably one of the best spotting and picture locations of all time!
The youtube video is taken form inside the pax area as you can see a mirror shadow in of the footage. Still good. Can remember the days of the magestic Clippers heading in and out, now a distant memory!

You can get these views from Gate 7 in Terminal 3 or upstairs at the Delta Sky Club (entrance next to Gate 6).

I will go out on a limb and say that although T3 undoubtedly needs to be torn down, having transited the place so many times I can't help but think.... I'll kinda miss it.

The problem with Terminal 3 isn't size - it's that they have tried to cram too much rental property in there without regards for the passengers, and trying to fly big planes out of waiting areas designed for little jets. Still, I think Delta and the airport are less worried about appealing to fliers as it is about maximizing profits and quick turnaround times. Wish someone would make the Worldport a historical landmark.
In any case, a question regarding the viewing area, since this always crops up - is there something against viewing areas in general that the Terminate and Stay Active agency has in general, and that is why they don't add them, or has there just been no interest in trying to design one for the modern world?
