Jugoslovenski aerotransport pregovara sa "Nigerija ervejzom" o davanju u najam širokotrupnog aviona "DC-10" čiji je put za Ameriku odložen, izjavio je direktor lizinga i revitalizacije flote JAT-a Goran Crljen.

On je za najnoviji broj JAT-ovog lista rekao da bi nigerijska kompanija taj avion za dugolinijski saobraćaj koristila na liniji Lagos - London - Njujork.

Trenutno je, prema rečima Crljena, stranim kompanijama iznajmljeno 10 aviona.

"O tome kakvu korist JAT ima od iznajmljivanja aviona koji tehnološkom opremljenošću ne mogu da lete po Evropi govori to da je samo iznajmljivanjem dve ’devetke’, koje ne vrede više od dva miliona po avionu, zarađeno 12,5 miliona dolara", istakao je on.

Zamenik direktora Spoljne trgovine JAT-a Gordana Bajić je istakla "da je nekoliko ugovora u fazi pripreme. Jedan od njih je i iznajmljivanje ’boinga 737’ na godinu dana, sa mogućnošću produžavanja ugovora na tri godine jednoj kompaniji u Tanzaniji", rekla je ona.

Bajićeva je kazala da se priprema i potpisivanje ugovora sa još nekoliko afričkih kompanija i dodala da je i mongolska kompanija u osnovanju "Džastis" zainteresovana za najam dva JAT-ova "boinga 737" i jedan "ATR-72".

List JAT-a takođe piše da je sa nedavnog Crljenovog puta u SAD donesena oprema za unapređenje kabina za celu flotu "B-737" i tri kontejnera enterijera za DC-9 za uređenje kabina po evropskim standardima.

Interest in leasing our planes

Yugoslav Airlines is discussing with Nigeria Airways the prospect of leasing their DC-10 (YU-AMB) to them, whose trip to the US has been post-poned, according to Goran Crljen, the director of leasing and fleet revitalisation.

For the newest issue of JAT's paper he reported that the Nigerina company would use the long-haul plane for the route Lagos-London-New York.

According to Crljen, 10 planes are currently on lease to other companies.

"The use that JAT has from leasing out airplines which because of their technological trimness can not fly around Europe is explained by the fact the leasing out only two DC-9's, which are not worth more than $2 million each, the company makes $12.5 million", he underlined.

Deputy director of JAT's foreign trade department, Gordana Bajic underlined that "a few contracts are in the works. One of them is the leasing of a Boeing 737 to a company in Tanzania for a year, with the option of extending the lease to three years", she said.

Ms. Bajic also said that agreements are in the works with a few more African companies and she added that a Mongolian company which is in the works, called "Dzhastis" is interested in leasing two of JAT's 737's and an ATR-72.

JAT's paper also writes that after Crljen's receant trip to the US, the equipment neceserray for the upgrading of the whole 737 fleet has been brought over and three containers of materials necessary for upgrading the DC-9s cabins up to European standards.

The last bit really is good news. Those 737's really need to be upgraded, I haven't seen the DC-9's but I assume they aren't much better. We may finally see them go from 138 pax down tp 126 for the 737.

Its interesting how they are making really nice profits on those two DC9s. Nonetheless, much of the fleet is being leased out, 10/30 aircraft is alot! Now that B737s are becoming more common to lease out, this opens the option to change fleet composition to airbus.

To be honest, I dont know where JAT will go with all this leasing. Doesnt JAT need planes for itself too?!?! I had the original assumption that B737s and ATR72s would be sufficient for two years, but now I no longer share the same opinion, as these planes are being leased. I guess we should give the company a year, and then they must make concrete decisions... a bulk of aircraft purshases are certainly in the horizon.

So now we know that the DC10 will not be used to JFK, what now? There is no mention of JATs temporary lease of a B767 for this route.

PS> Does anybody know what is the stance of JAT from the government of Serbia? As we all know, all issues (concerning aircraft purchases) must be approved by parliament.

Jugoslovenski aerotransport nije završio proceduru obnavljanja
starih sporazuma i bezbednosnih sertifikata, najavljenu za
poèetak juna, pa se do daljnjeg pomera rok za otvaranje redovnog
saobraæaja izmeðu naše zemlje i Sjedinjenih Amerièkih Država, i
Kanade, saopštio je juèe Medija centar JAT-a.

Na osnovu ispitivanja tržišta i velikog interesovanja naših ljudi koji
žive u SAD i Kanadi, JAT je doneo odluku o uspostavljanju
direktnog saobraæaja sa Njujorkom, Èikagom i Torontom, s tim
što bi se za putnike iz drugih delova amerièkog kontinenta, u
saradnji sa lokalnim avio-kompanijama, obezbedile najpovoljnije
veze sa Beogradom preko aerodroma u ovim gradovima.

JAT je, takoðe, razmotrio sve druge aspekte letenja preko
Atlantika, pre svega potrebne kapacitete, i definisan naèin na koji
je moguæe prevaziæi nedostatak aviona za ove linije, kaže se u
informaciji Medija centra.

Canadian foreign minister, John Manley, made his first official visit to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. At a press conference later today, Minister Manley said the following: (translated)

"I also have strong conviction that there is a growing interest for Canadian companies to invest and trade with Yugoslavia, since there is more stability and reliability."

Manley went further to say that, "With the fact that there is a large Yugoslav population in Canada, we expect that in the near future, JAT and Air Canada will open direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto"

Manley said that on monday, at the Belgrade press conference. His statement was quoted in 'Politika' newspaper. Nevertheless, because Air Canada is no longer officially run by the federal government, I doubt that there is much weight behind his statement - however it may be potentially feasible. Nonetheless, Air Canada serves only a few routes in Europe, so Belgrade could be a potential hotspot for Canadians travelling to the middle east or other parts of Southeastern Europe (if the price is right!).

Yeah, I read it too...

I doubt Air Canada will start service to Belgrade. They have may partners at many hubs where people can connect to Belgrade. Same goes for the Middle East, they have other hubs, and since they are in Star Alliance and have many partners why would they enter a partnership with JAT. Lower quality service, poor on-time performance, low frequency etc... Also, Belgrade isn't a very good airport to connect through.
