Long Haul Operations From SYD Crosswind Runway?

G'day folks!

I know that from time to time, when 16R/34L is closed for repairs or due to strong crosswinds, it's sometimes necessary to use the shorter crosswind runway, 07/25, which is around 8,300' long.

Obviously, this must mean some capacity constraints, but I'm just wondering what the longest flights (and largest acft) that can be operated from this runway are? Can they make LAX, or HKG, SYD?

I'm just trying to get a feel for the kind of operations possible from a runway of this length.

Well, I can't give you any technical points of intrest.

But I can let you know, that while I was wating to catch BA 10 SYD BKK, I saw VS 201 SYD HKG take off on the cross runway with it's 346. It is getting up there in size of eqp and range

Almost anything can (and does) operate from 07/25, the major exception being the transpac flights, SIN,HKG,BKK all have flown from the cross runway.

It has been pointed out before but the 744 at the top of this page is departing from RWY 25 at SYD, since that photo was taken A380 have also departed RWY 25.

Cheers

I believe before the 16R/34L's first major extension all long haul flights used the cross wind runway.
