CVG was one of 4 new US routes that AC Jazz started today out of YYZ. The others are Memphis TN, Syracuse NY, and Portland, ME.

How many daily CVG-YYZ flights does DL have? Do you think DL will react to AC's new service with lower fares or increased capacity?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Probably more of a pre-emptive strike against possible YYZ-CVG WS service. They know DL has pulled back in CVG and will probably make it a focus operation, so why not jump in and compete before their own trans-border competitor from their side of the 49th jumps in?

I doubt WS would have any interest in a market like YYZ-CVG. A 737 would also be much too big.

If I'm not mistaken, NW/DL stopped their MEM-YYZ flights a while ago and re-started them only recently to compete with the new AC flights to MEM.

Didn't Jazz / Air Ontario fly to CVG back in the early 90's?

Good Luck to Jazz - I don't know how long they'll stick with CVG / MEM. It seems a big task to unseat DL with 2 flights per day.

Portland Maine seems an interesting choice, I think it's 2x daily to YYZ right? Is that O&D traffic or are they looking for connecting traffic via YYZ or bit of both?

I cannot find any indication of CVG service in any of my early 90's Air Canada timetables.

I do recall Air Canada announcing commuter service (Air Ontario I believe) from Cincinnati to Toronto in 2000 during the Comair strike. However, the Comair strike ended and the Air Canada service never began.

Likely both. PWM-YYZ is on Beech 1900s so that limits the number of people needed. Still a longish flight at 467 miles.

Still gives an option for those going to most of Canada, as well as Asian connections via YYZ.

Considering that Toronto is at 44 degrees north, all the transborder competitors are on the same side of the 49th.   But there are probably a couple dozen markets in the U.S. that would be higher-priority than CVG for WS or PD.

Hmmmmm.....I thought for sure that AC did indeed fly to CVG during and until just after the OH stike ended?

I do know that AirOntario ran a daily CVG-YYZ charter for P&G for quite a while, so there were AC painted aircraft in CVG. But I thought for sure that AC/Jazz (was it even called Jazz back then?) was running scheduled flights during the strike, and left shortly afterwards. I could be mistaken though.

You may be correct ocracoke....I just remember that it was clearly only in place due to the strike. Either (a) the strike ended before AC began service so the AC service never began or (b) the AC service was very short-lived and ended promptly after the strike ended.

It was clearly not a route AC wanted to fly while there was any other competition.

Once Comair was flying again, the AC service was dropped (if it ever began).
