I've heard several rumors that southwest is still occasionally hiring FAs and posts the position online monthly or even less for a brief period of time. From what I hear from my pals over at Southwest- they aren't planning on adding any FAs and haven't really done so since last year. Just curious if anyone has any information- I ask as I've been flying regional for a few years and southwest is the most attractive career destination for me as a flight attendant, any info?

Our staffing levels for the summer are currently fairly even with available flying, however, come Fall/Winter (and barring any surprise growth) we will be overstaffed just like last Fall/Winter. As of now the company has stated they have no intentions of hiring anyone until 2011. If there were to be a surprise class it would likely be filled with internal employees who with to transfer to Inflight.
Our last class was, I think, November 2008???? I know we have FA's junior to that but this is because we had supervisors who came back on-line.

I don't think I would be interested in AirTran- I'm not really looking to move to the east coast and AirTran isn't really a step up from where I'm at now- however your thought is spot on, certainly better than a regional I'm sure just given the general nature of what regional crews have to fly on a daily basis.
I remember it was the same way with all the airlines after 9/11- no one hired for a long long time!
