Yes Monday mornings QF11 was the first aircraft to use the cross-field new taxiway.

New taxiway is the one on the left of the image below.

Yes From the linked article:

For Monday's ceremony, Qantas supplied an A380 that was ***en route from Australia***. It landed on one of the airport's southern runways and then moved along the new taxiway to reach its gate on the north side of the Bradley terminal.

The interactive diagram shows the second taxiway going right through at least one AA Hangar, or is that just an error?

No, not a mistake.
A few hangars, a fire station, a catering kitchen, and some other facilities are being demolished for the new taxiways.
