Quote: Air India today cancelled 76 domestic and international flights in the wake of strike by 20,000 employees of the national carrier who are protesting against the airline management's gag order, a circular prohibiting union leaders from going public with their demands. “We have cancelled a total of 76 flights scheduled to be operated on domestic, as well as international sectors from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru today,” said an Air India official. Air India has cancelled 24 of its flights from Delhi, 37 from Mumbai, six from Kolkata, seven from Chennai and two from Bengaluru.
Quote: As Air India employees' flash strike enters second day and as there is no respite for flyers, Air India management has approached the Mumbai High Court against striking employees.
This is turning out to be uglier than thought ....
Quote: Delhi High court on Wednesday restrained Air India employees from continuing with the strike.
Earlier, the government on Wednesday gave a free hand to Air India to crack down on a section of its employees on strike calling their action irresponsible, as the state-owned airline cancelled another 76 flights across the country.
Thousands of passengers were left stranded on the second day of the strike by the cash-strapped airline's engineers and ground staff, who account for about 60 per cent of the entire staff strength.
