To be delivered from 2013. When are the first ones meant to be delivered and when do the leases on the 738's end? Will Mango get any of them?

An "interesting comment" made by John Leahy in another article:

SAA ups Airbus order

John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer: customers, said the A320 was the most modern and efficient single aisle aircraft available.

It seems like a "tad of biased reporting", by a credible South African news source, to the South African taxpayers who will eventually foot the bill for these planes. Just my

Will the A332s be used for the thinner South American routes of GRU and EZE - and maybe even used to open GIG again...?

They are planing to have 20 deliveries at 2013.And they will have 6 A330s at 2011.I like that airline and they are big because they have cargo planes too and they serve nearly around the globe so they are good.

There is unfortunately way too much emotional history for SAA to EVER bring back the Flying Springbok. I would hazard a guess that if someone published that sketch in a South African newspaper, the offense it would create and the associated outrage would be similar to publishing a sketch of a Lufthansa plane with a yellow and blue swastika. Justified or not, South Africans have an absolute intense hatred of nearly any emblem from the apartheid era.

What, like the symbol under which the Springbok rugby team won the World Cup in 2007?

Wow, that's striking!! I think someone here needs to drop a little birdie in the ear of SA's PR dept!

Note I said "NEARLY" any emblem.

Also, you're obviously not following the continual debate in SA about the emblem. The only reason that it is still in use in rugby is because it is trademarked by the SA Rugby Union, and as such the government has no power to remove it.

True but SA is a funny place and with time it *could* happen. If I'm not mistaken SA still use Springbok as their identifier.

There is broad and deep (at least political) opposition to the SA Rugby emblem. In fact the latest crop of jerseys have moved the 'bok to the right side of the chest, it is no longer over the heart where it should be. Instead there is the generic protea shield which ensures for every jersey sold the a certain ministry is getting a healthy commission.

I didn't know that they won the Rugby world cup in 2007. It was awesome to be in Durban watching the Tri-Nations Cup last September though.

Perhaps SAA could do what occured when SA won the World Cup when Mandella was president and have Go Boks! painted under the aircraft!
