I was recently approached by a friend who was wondering if any of the airports in Southern CA, specifically LAX, LGB, or SNA that are hiring for ramp agents or any airside position on a part time basis. If so, which companies/airlines are hiring? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

The turnover rate for ramp agents is fairly high as it involves repetitive physical labor, so there is a pretty good chance companies are hiring. There are the airlines, and they post their positions on their respective websites, and then there are contractors, like ATS, and ASIG who may post positions on their websites. An alternative is to go to the airports, and ask if they have any open ramp positions (Use standard job-hunting skills here, like looking nice, being patient, and waiting off to the side so that you don't clog the check-in line.)

I work at SNA. No airline his hiring, except for WN maybe very rarely. I am sure they could find a job with a contract company as the turnover rates are fairly high there such as with Delta Global Service- DGS or ATS. I wouldn't work for either of them but if they wanna bust their butt's for minimal wage, no respect and little benefits- more power to them.

The work ethic in this country is appalling..
I couldn't agree more.
Now back to the topic. You mentioned LGB. Jetblue puts out postings every month for ground operations (ramp agent) but it goes up for only a few days at a time and taken quickly off as there are a ton of people out there that would bust there butts and its not for min wage btw. Our pay scale change once again and I believe LGB crews are starting at $11.50. Its definatly $11 or more, that I'm sure of. Yeah your not buying that mansion in the hills but $11.50 with pretty good benifits is better then having no job at all.
I'm not a company man by any means but I work for Jetblue and its a pleasure compared to the stories I hear from other people that have come from other airlines and service companies. Like any job in this industry, its who you work with not who you work for. So if you got good working people on your crew, that makes all the difference.
