AA Brings 762 Back On MIA-LAX

Looking through the latest schedule update, I see once again AA is putting a 762 on one of the LAX-MIA-LAX runs.

They've done this in the past, and while I think it's great to have another 3 class aircraft on this route (and one with WiFi too!), I can't understand why AA does this... the 762 shows up for a month or two, then we're back to mostly 757s and 738s on this route (yes, there's is the one 777 and sometimes the 763).

I would be great if we could have the 762 on this route year-round. Maybe this year it will be here to stay?

Could it be just a way for them to reposition aircraft to different routes out of MIA?

I did a little more digging.

The last day of the 777 is July 1. The 777 returns on August 24.

The first day of the 762 is August 24 and it's last day is October 26.

Is there a huge increase in premium demand from August 24 through October 26 and then there isn't any premium demand after October 26?

This just doesn't make sense to me.

As somebody who follows the schedules often, I'm sure you realize that the default schedule of 1x 777/3x 738/3x 757 has never actually been put into use. Nothing past 18NOV10 is valid - that is just a default equipment schedule that will change, just like it always has.

This summer, however, for the seven weeks that AA is operating a third daily MIA-EZE and 763 winglet installation going full speed, there will be a widebody drought on this route. The 772 that usually operates MIA-LAX-MIA will temporarily fly MIA-EZE daylight.

Yeah, but the 762 is coming online the same day as the 772 returns. And then the 762 leaves a mere 2 months later.

Because the schedules havent been set yet. AA most likely just puts 757 everywhere then decides closer in what the final schedule will be and what aircraft to use. Right now it's just place holding...

OK, then I'm going to go out on a limb here.

I predict the 762 will be yanked from the route sometime before the end of 2010.

I would choose to fly on the B763 rather than the B762 any day, regardless of WiFi.

This evening, AA sub'd a 762 in place of the usual 752 on AA #297 LAX-HNL. This route rarely sees the 762 but instead a 763 is a sub on ocasion. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAL297

Thanks for the information, Mark. I definitely would be very happy to fly on a 762 or a 752 anyday. Also with the chance of being up'd to J seat if sitting in Y, is even better. I thought the 763s were sub'd more often than the 762s.

Currently, AA operates one daily JFK-MIA-JFK rotation with the B772. AA also utilizes the B738, B752, B762, and B763 on the MIA-JFK-MIA route.
