I think the blame is misplaced here, DL does not fly PVR-MEX.....Delta does not accept pets during the summer travel season there is a permanant embargo.

The dog was misplaced by DL as they tried to fly it MEX - DTW. Looks like it got free in MEX. One very head strong dog, it would seem!

People stop putting your pets on Delta!
There is a new thread every week about Delta losing someones animal and that is only what we read about here! Give Delta some time to figure out this problem and if you like your fluffy little dog fly on some other airline!

This isn't just your run of the mill flight here there are several issues at play, and personally I would never, ever check my dog going from Mexico to the US on ANY airline.

1) International travel and the associated rules/regulations for transporting animals into another country
2) The fact that it was Canadian citizens transporting a dog from Mexico to the USA
3) A dog that wasn't their's when they went down to Mexico
4) Baggage handling at MEX, I don't know if they are even DL employees, but I doubt the standards are up to what you would find at a domestic airport

By the way, there was story last night about how people lost their cat when flying AA. The cat got out of its crate in DFW and they currently think it is lost somewhere in the baggage areas at DFW. Not just a DL thing.....

Things like that happen on many airlines. AC lost a cat a week or so ago when it somehow escaped from its container during a connection at Montreal. Fortunately it was found about 4 days later.

Stop putting your flights on DL! Thats ridiculous comment, DL should stop accepting pets if they are not competent enough to transport them safely!

DL screwed up here and DL should pay and these customers have just about every right to be pissed. That said:

As long as we're going to list airlines to completely avoid when traveling with something: if you value your $2200 custom made golf clubs, avoid United AT ALL COSTS. UA didn't lose mine - they stole them right out of the travel case. I got my travel case back empty (yet the extra pair of running shoes I had stuffed in the same main compartment as the clubs were still there - imagine that). If you''re planning to go golfing on your trip, don't trust UA to make it happen.

You shouldn't give us your guitar either, it will most definitely be lost, no doubt about it!

That is a really messed up story, I would find the man without shoes and beat him with the clubs! What station?

I'm just kidding about the pets people, you should have understanded that but of course this is Anet!
It is just funny that DL has got a ton of bad press lately about losing pets, I don't think they lose more than other airlines (the might?) but for some reason they have lost all the loud peoples pets as of late.

Many are so attached to their dogs or other pets that they have to bring them no matter where they go, even at great expense or risk. I recall a couple of years ago a show dog (of a hunting breed) took off from it's cage at JFK never to be seen again. In another case a number of years ago, a guy was in PHX area for vacation and picked up a stray dog and arranged to bring it back to his NY City area home on a flight. It was in the summer, the dog was not being properly handled in the extreme heat and it died. That guy sued and won some compensation. It also led to tighter policies as to flying pets as cargo in certain extreme weather conditions. There have been cats that escaped their cages and ended up flying a number of flights before being recovered.

No wonder many airlines are so restrictive as to flying pets or charge increasing fees, they have to limit their liability costs.

If these people , signed a waiver protecting Delta from any claims if the dog was injured one would think that this would also include loss of the dog.

Could be somebody in MEX thought it was cute and brought it home with him.

For several years, now, DL has had a policy of not flying animals as checked baggage during the summer months (May 15th-Sep15th) because of the heat but would still accept them as cargo. Don't know if that's still in effect or not.

BTW, the lost dog in the original posting is old news....at least a month old.

rwy04lga, I dont have Delta, but unfortunatley they never fail to amaze me with their stupidity. We once had a cat escape from its cage here at DUB and it ran off, it wasnt left for the pap to call us, you need to be honest about these things and tell the pap exactly whats happened straight away. Sending 2 UMs to the wrong destination and then loosing a dog doesnt really fill people with confidence now does it?

No. There are DL CSAs at MEX, but the ramp is handled by a contractor.
