I read somewhere that AUS has a family picnic area where you can spot and listen to ATC from speakers. Is this true? Thanks!

I just got home from there!

There is a paved parking spot and everything right by runway 17L.

Directions:

Continue going on HW 71 east, exit to the main entrance as usual, but stay on the exit road and keep going, so you drive right past the fountain entrance to the airport. The next road will be Golf Course Road. It is the next right from the airport's main intrance. There is a sign to label it. Take a right down Golf Course road until it dead ends. You will drive by a Golf Center and then it will dead end with a parking lot and nice places to sit and watch.
