Another small plane crash today near Buttonville airport in Toronto. Full details are not yet available.

From cp24.com

A small plane has crashed in a parking lot near Highway 404 and 16th Avenue.

There are reports one person was killed in the crash but authorities have not confirmed the fatality or how many people were on board the plane.

From The Toronto Star:

Police and firefighters are on scene after a plane crashed around the Buttonville airport near Markham at around 5:30 p.m Sunday.

They are not releasing information about injuries or damages at this time.

Nearby portions of 16th Ave. and Highway 404 have been closed off pending investigation.

Amit Kohli, a witness who works on the 8th floor of neighbouring 45 Vogell Rd., said that the plane is a small, black two-seater and that the cockpit appears to be empty from his vantage point.

“I heard a big thump and when I saw it there was no one around it,” he said, “The plane was engulfed in flames as it dropped.”

That's spooky. I just flew an hour or two before this accident at YKZ and I saw him towing banners. I even commented to my passenger that I was glad he was on his way before we got to the bay because of the extra run he would've needed to catch his banner.

Poor guy, may he rest in peace. That plane was a fixture at YKZ always parked by the bay of 15. Tragic.

Of course residents nearby will claim that the airport is unsafe because of the two accidents. Let's not jump to conclusions.

I'm quite familiar with this plane. I have fueled it several times at YKZ and I remember it parking beside the hangar closest to the 404.

Do you two know if this was the only plane painted like this at YKZ? While holding short of the runway last Thursday this plane was behind me. Heard the tower refer to it as "Media 5" I believe when it requested clearance to take off. Not sure if it's the same plane or not.

Nearly 99% sure it was the same plane. It did go by the Media callsign and was, I believe, the only all-black plane at YKZ.
