Hi there,

I really get a kick out of the names that Virgin gives to its aircraft. However, I am sure that there are some clever names still out there that could be used. Have you got any ideas? Here are a few of mine. Some of the names refer to characters in songs and are noted by an asterisk.

1) Vestal Virgin
2) Vamp
3) Hard Hearted Hannah*
4) Mrs. Robinson*
5) Roxanne*
6) Little Red Riding Hood
7) Delilah*
8) Virginia Wolf
9) Lulu (after the British singer)
10) Madame Butterfly
11) Vixen
12) Auntie Mame*
13) Honky Tonk Woman*
14) Brown-eyed Girl*
15) Suzy Wong (from the movie)
16) Krakatoa Katie (volcano from a Mighty Mouse cartoon)
17) Wicked Woman*
18) Caribbean Queen*
19) Wahine (pronounced WA-HEE-NEE and mean girl in hawaiian - when VS starts service to Honolulu)
20) Lusty Lola

Hey Chepos,

There actually is a Virgin 747-200 named "Dancing Queen". I flew on her from London, Gatwick to Boston (VS011)on November 29, 2000.

Then when Virgin Atlantic starts flying to Australia they should call one of their aircraft Kylie Minogue-the original Austrlian Vixen.

There's some good suggestions there EXCEPT Margaret Thatcher (yuk). Don't you know that Sir Richard is a Labour supporter!! You have to think of an appropriate registration (G-V---) to go with the name as well.

Actually one of the new A340-642s will be named "Madam Butterfly".

How about this one: (Reggaebird you will like this !!)

G-VIBE The Reggae Bus or Bird. I wonder if Sir Richard Branson is a fan of Bob Marley !!!

OR:

G-VNAP Sweet Dreams. This one is too similar to "Sweet Dreamer" already chosen for an A346.

Another topical one for you. Someone said SRB is a Labour party fan. So, with the approaching elections why not create a temporary registration:

G-VOTE Tony Blair

LOL! Big grin

No, seriously from the one's that exist today, here's my favourite.

G-VAEL Maiden Toulouse

Read as Made in Toulouse, seeing as this was one of the first A340s to be built, it has such a creative name, don't you think?

A330-243,

One could also read "Maiden Toulouse" as "Maiden Too Loose". That would fit nicely with the saucy, sassy of Virgin's image....don't you think?

Excellent.

The company have beaten you to it on a couple of those:-

G-VROC = Mustang Sally (747-400)
G-VSHY = Madame Butterfly (A340-600)

I particularly like G-VMOO and G-VGAS. You should let Virgin know of your suggestions.
