The first brand new A330, originally ordered by AirOne, has been delivered to Alitalia yesterday evening.
This new a/c, equipped with full flat seat in J and with the Panasonic EX2 IFE system, will start the commercial flights on Jul 11th (MXP-NRT).
In the next few weeks, a second one will be delivered as well.
They will serve the Japanese and US destinations from MXP.
Here below a link where you can find the pictures of the yesterday departure from TLS.

Quoting B738FlyUIA (Reply 1):
How many they will receive? And how is the progress on the other AZ Aircrafts will modify there present livery.
The total amount of the ordered A330 should be 12, plus 12 options for the A350.
These new 330 should replace the 767 fleet and the 2 "old" 330 previously owned by AirOne.
About the existing fleet modifications, no news on the repainting process (it seems it has been stopped, at least in the last months) but they are close to complete the cabin refurbishment of the "old" A319-320-321 a/c, now equipped with Recaro ultraslim seats.

Quoting laca773 (Reply 4): Thanks for posting the link to the photos of AZ's new 332! She's definitely a beautiful bird. After NRT, will JFK be the second destination to be flown with the 332s?
It should be MIA or JFK
Quoting TYCOON (Reply 5): Nice!! Alitalia has always been a staunch "namer" of the aircraft in its fleet. I see that this A330 does not have a name... yet. Anyone know what the names will be for the A330s?
The aircraft's name is "Raffaello Sanzio" so I guess that this fleet will be dedicated to the famous Reinassance Italian painters.

Congrats AZ! Nice to see AZ 'andare avanti' again, and get itself one of the finest and most modern long-range aircraft available.
I think Italy deserves to be home of a major airline, at least the size and importance of KL or IB. AZ has been a bit far from that lately, but hopefully their troubles are now a thing of the past. With a 772 and 332 fleet, they will have the best tools to become a solid player in Europe, and both MXP and FCO have the potential to become significant hubs in Europe, which can nicely complement the busy CDG and AMS, in particular for destinations towards the South and South-East as distances are a bit shorter.
Also, having a reliable, reputable major airline will indirectly benefit to the rest of Italy's economy, which currently is not at its best... After all, it is well known that Italians are faithful (or would love to be faithful if it was not in such trouble) to their home airline, so it can't really fail if it is wisely managed. Hopefully AZ is taking this path again.
May we dream of an A346 or 77W fleet at AZ one day? Or say, maybe the A350 to take over the 772 and offer bigger capacity?
