Qantas have only had two liveries on their B747's (apart from the specials-Wunala, Nalanji & Melbourne F1), since they were delivered in the early 70's. Is it time for Qantas to update their paint scheme/livery or is their current livery timeless/ageless. The current scheme is nearly 20 years old, having been adopted in the early 1980's and only the wording under the name Qantas on the forward fuselage being changed from 'The Spirit of Australia' to 'The Australian Airline' & back to the former again. With the iminent introduction of the A330's next year, is it time to get a new jazzy livery, or should they stay with the current one?
Whats your thoughts?
Cheers - BZF

Qantas's livery may be old but i think it is simple, nice and it represents Australia for it's kangaroo. Maybe they can improve on it but the main idea of this stays? But i think they need to was their aircrafts though.
my 2c worth.

By the way, a lot of people here know it is an Australian carrier coz it has that thingie that can hop on the tail! and they cant recognise others.

I feel QANTAS should improve on its livery, perhaps by adding a little more colours on it but still retaining the kangaroo tail.
It's getting a little old, don't you think?

NO WAY!!
Qantas has one of the best liveries in the world! Yes it's old, but i think will be bad for them to change it. It's like telling SIA to change their livery!

I love their current livery and i dont think they need to change their liveries . Qantas has a very exciting fleet ! The reason why i say that is because they flies their B747s ( all their services to where i am now (Singapore)) . There are chances to see F1 , Wunala and Nalanji dreaming on regular basis

Al, you're right on the money.... "if it ain't broke don't fix it". The current livery, introduced back in 1984 is timeless to an extent. Qantas will never HAVE to change the flying kangaroo. I think if the Qantas livery were changed too much, you'll hear great uproar from us Australians!
The Qantas livery probably could do with a facelift, perhaps they could change the titles a bit, perhaps a bit like what Emirates have done - adopt larger titles - theirs looks fantastic. I also think that Qantas need to update their printed matter livery. On paper, the logo does look outdated. If you remember back in 1997 they introduced the flying kangaroo livery but then reverted back to the old. God knows why! But, an answer to your question, yes it is a timeless livery.

I don't think the entire livery needs a changing. It is very simple but effective, and might I add, easy to identify at the airport.
Qantas should add a little bit more colour near the front where it is all white though.
As for washing the aircrafts, I have always found Qantas' aircrafts to be the cleanest.
You should have seen how shiny the 747 VH-OJH was at the airport bound for LA next to some other airlines that needed washing.
I think Qantas does a good job of washing them unlike other carriers like Air France and EVA Air.
