As from IATA Winter schedules of this year Hong-Kong Airlines (part of HNA Group) is to launch a thrice weekly flight beteween Brussels and Hong-Kong with their new A330. It will be their second long-haul route after Moscow.
That was revealed this morning in two Belgian newspapers. They will already launch a cargo A330 flight in September.
Hainan already flies 3x week from PVG to BRU and 4x week from PEK to BRU. HNA Group had already a large portfolio of investments in Belgium (hotels,...).
For the launch of the HKG route they will get a financial support of the Flemish Govt (up to 1.5m Euros).

That'll be in competition with CX who operate 3x weekly HKG-BRU with 744F.
In the '90's we had Air Kong Kong with a daily 741F, a route that continued on to MAN. That route was transferred to CX in 2002. Not sure if CX ever operated daily.
Nonetheless, it'll be very nice to see the A330F appear in BRU

Quoting klmcedric (Reply 2): Just to be clear, they are launching pax flights as well as cargo flight, right?
Affirmative, HX will launch pax flights 3x a week from HKG to BRU in addition to 3 freight flights a week. Both the pax as the cargo flight will be operated by a A330/A330F

Funny, the other day I actually needed a ticket to BRU. Great to see someone is entering the market with a non-stop. Very curious about HK Airlines long haul product. I see the A330 here in HK daily and will have to try and pay a visit one of this afternoons.

I bet they are configured the same way as HU's A332s? If so they actually compete with CX's hard product quite nicely.
The traffic between HKG and Europe is increasing generally? I noticed also Finnair is planning to add flights to HKG, from daily to 12x weekly. Though not before next summer season.
