Is Runway 4-22 At BWI Used Much?

I'm there fairly frequently and I never see it being used. It's 6000 Ft long and could easily handle RJ's and turbo's. Looking at an aerial photo, there are no black tire marks on either end.

It is never used and will be replaced with a taxiway in 2015. There is an issue with the overrun for runway 4 (there is none) and noise abatement procedures have basically turned it into a really wide taxiway

Why is 28 used so infrequently for arrivals. It would seem to be a good late night arrival runway minimizing the downwind for 33L for arrivals from the N and W

After 9 pm or so it's standard practice to use 28 for arrivals. The problem with anytime before that really is departures. In a west config. (which is also calm wind) we land 33L and depart 28. If a pilot asks Potomac or tower for 28, we'll take it into consideration but if there's a line of flights waiting to go out, it will be shot done every time. During some of the slow periods I'll reach out to Potomac and tell them if a flight wants 28 thats fine, but again, that's only if it's slow.

I worked at BWI 1995-2001 and can only remember one instance where runway 4-22 was used. I believe it was around 1998-2000.

My memory is hazy but I seem to recall that one of the main runways was closed for construction and we had strong gusty winds out of the northeast over the span of a day or two. During that time, several aircraft landed on 04. It was a very rare event.

Back when Continental sent the Q400's to BWI, we used that runway quite frequently.

I am pretty sure I flew out on that runway when I went home to BOS back on April 17. It was an early Saturday morning flight on B6. I might've been on 28. I'll have to find my camera (I videotaped the takeoff), since I said what runway we were on.

RY 04/22 CLSD EXCP FOR TAXI. RY 04/22 RESTRICTIONS APPLY EXCEPT FOR EXCESSIVE CROSSWINDS; EMERGENCIES; OR NON-AVAILABILITY OF OTHER RYS.

Very insightful

The other thing too at night is if winds are calm or favoring east, we'll land 10 a lot just because it isn't as noise sensitive and it's a quicker flight for anyone coming from the west/north, which is where a majority of the overnight traffic comes in from.
