I have always wondered, is the A320 really more fuel-efficient than the 737-400? Is it still more efficient than the 737-800? Can somebody help me with this? I realize that the IAE V2500 engines are more efficient than the CFM56's, but what about the CFM-engined 320's?

I would imagine the 737 is better than the small Airbus (even fuel efficiency) in all areas but room. The 737's interior cabin width is almost a foot narrower than the A319/320/321's. Seeing how they both seat 6 abreast, the small Airbus is probably more comfortable. But the 737 is the best selling plane I believe so Boeing is doing something right.
