VX's Route Authority Request For Mexico

I've read in another thread and in several articles online that the DOT was to release their decision on VX's Mexico route authority requests (for SFO-CUN, LAX-CUN, and SFO-SJD) by July 14th. And yet I can't find anything online about the final decision. Does anyone know what the status of this is?

No the comment period is still open

Per their DOT filings:
Any person who wishes to support or oppose this Application may do so by: (1) filing an answer by July 20, 2010; and (2) serving that answer on the person(s) listed above and all persons served with a copy of this Application.

Anyhow there is really no debate if they will get these authorities as they are all vacant. Also I dont think VX is much in a rush for these authorities as once awarded they have to commence within 90-days.
I don't know what their new aircraft delivery schedule is, also I suspect due to the nature of the routes they rather launch these later in winter than have to now in the fall.

I can tell you what happened with AS's SAN-PVR route application. Doesn't really mean anything but it could provide some reference for those interested in VX's route requests.

AS applied for SAN-PVR (with service to start on 11/12/10) on 4/21/10; the DOT approved the route on 5/20/10. AS finally opened the new service for sale on 7/6/10. As of that date, the Mexican authorities still had not approved the route so AS is still tagging all reservations and sales with, "Subject to Approval of the Mexican Government." Some have suggested that the Mexicans may not approve the new route until a couple of days before the service is due to start in November.

All approved by DOT today.

DOT has given VX till December 31st to commence SFO-SJD, and March 31st 2011 for the two CUN services.

Well, Cancun from California is not a sure thing by any means but with non-daily frequency on those routes, they might be successful.

With all the uncertainty these days on Mexican routes, including the turmoil developing at MX, Mexico should be an interesting destination to watch over the next year. And who knows, there may be additional opportunities opening up for VX (and other U.S. carriers)...

Can someone verify that VX's terminal at LAX does have FIS facilities?

Not having FIS is not really a big deal.
Alaska for ages has run Mexico service from LAX T-3, without an FIS facility, and simply buses passengers over to TBIT for clearance. V Australia is in T-3 also, and in their case they park at TBIT and tow over to T-3 for departure.
So don't think it will me a major issue for VX.
