Indian Aviation Thread: Part 88 (by jayeshrulz Jun 12 2010 in Civil Aviation)
The previous thread reached its limit.

From the previous thread, our contributor Ojas wrote.
AI has announced expansion on certain routes.

Already announced:

* DEL - MEL
* DEL - ORD
* DEL - YYZ

Domestic:

* New non stop DEL - GOI flight

* DEL - BOM to increase from 12 daily to 14 daily (This includes 4 weekly BOM - DEL - PVG and v.v and 3 weekly DEL-BOM-BAH-DOH-BOM-DEL)

* DEL - HYD increase from 3 daily to 5 daily.

* DEL - ATQ to go from 2 daily to 4 daily.

* DEL - COK increases from 1 daily to 2 daily.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) AI will be starting daily DEL - ORD Non stop from 31 October 2010

2) AI will be terminating BOM - JFK non stop and route it via DEL. BOM-DEL-JFK will thus go to a daily B777-300ER.

Further changes that are expected:

* AI dumping AMD-FRA-EWR and re route that as AMD-BOM-EWR using a B77W.

* AI launching daily non stop DEL - YYZ flights using a B77W. The 7 LHR slots will be used to up frequencies on the existing BOM and DEL - LHR flights. Also ATQ - LHR non stop will be over.

* DEL - MEL schedule is expected shortly with a B77L.

* Also if all goes well, 4 weekly DEL - SFO will be launched using a B77L in early 2011.

Jet Airways AT72 at Ahmadabad on Jul 22nd 2010, nose wheel came loose on landing.

Cheers!

I don't see DEL-SFO happening in 2011 ... otherwise, all expected. Now to some new destinations from DEL ... perhaps, CDG? TLV? DAC?

Also ATQ - LHR non stop will be over.

Does that mean there will be zero AI nonstop flights from Europe/US to anyplace outside DEL or BOM?

Maybe the strategies come clearer going forward. AI will of course try to funnel everybody through DEL to everywhere, besides BOM/LHR and BOM/EWR.

That will leave somebody else to try long haul some nonstops from other cities (not DEL or BOM). As of now, I think the only one is 9W Chennai to the scissor hub at BRU. I wonder what else is viable now, or will be viable in 5 years.

They most definitely do! But I don't think the yields would be that good. But they should definitely give it a shot! I really wish BLR had more international flights

Another opportunity for the politicians to make some money on asset/land sale. On the positive side, once there is not much money left to be made from AI, the politicians may allow it to be privatised.

Air India To Start BOM - EWR Non Stop From W10 (by ojas Jul 27 2010 in Civil Aviation)

With this move, AI will terminate its AMD-FRA-EWR run. AMD - BOM - AMD will be on a A321, thus we see the end of the FRA hub.

According to Air India, effective winter 2010 AI will add another 4 weekly flights to LHR thus making it double daily.The existing 3 weekly day flights will be re timed and re scheduled as

AI 115 DEL - LHR 0720 1130
AI 116 LHR - DEL 1330 0315 +1

Aircraft: B777-300ER, same flight number to ATQ

The other flight is

AI 111 DEL - LHR 1445 1855
AI 112 LHR - DEL 2130 1050+1

Aircraft: B777-300ER, same flight number to CCU.

***********************************

With this AI will be terminating its ATQ - LHR 4pw flights (which were continuing to YYZ)

thus we see the end of the FRA hub.

Nothin personal against FRA or Germany or Europe but its gotta say good riddance,
its high time given all WBs in AIs current and future fleet are capable of bypassing Europe

There wasn't any power shortage to DEL T3, just supplier issue .... which has been resolved way back in June. And there are back up generators; no one will have to carry a torch and go through the terminal.

Haha, brilliant. Unfortunately, as I discovered to my disappointment, domestic ops shift to T3 only at the end of August. I'm flying to DEL from BLR on the 16th and back on the 22nd. All my T3 hopes dashed

Its rainy in BLR, but not too much, like it does in BOM. It drizzles the entire day, causing mild inconvenience and extreme cold :-P

Thanks Anshuk! Too bad about T3, that would have been just perfect. I may put my head in the lion's mouth and try out the AI nonstop from the US, hopefully their labor problems are under control and they are getting their paychecks.

What could be the reason? Was it because radar failure was delaying departures and only limited bays were made available on day 1 which continued to be occupied, resulting in remote parking for the above?

Some more sensible moves from AI.

*AI has re aligned its schedules to CDG, thus having similar times departures from DEL to LHR, FRA and CDG leaving in the afternoon and all these 3 flights arrive the next morning at 1000 hrs ish. As of now CDG flights arrive at 0630 hrs.

* Finally AI has re scheduled its DEL - DXB (AI 747/746) flight and will not go head on with IC 895/896. DEL - DXB will now leave at 1500 hrs instead of 2030 hrs and return to DEL at 2215 hrs similar to BOM AI timings.

* AI has tweaked its MAA - SIN services and all 4 of its flights (2 IC and 2 AIX) leave after a specific time interval thus not competing with each other.

I would think the DEL-MEL flight will be scheduled to provide short connection to DEL-FRA/LHR/CDG in both directions. Any ideas as to the proposed DEL-MEL schedule?

I hope they would make an attempt to schedule DEL-BKK/KUL/SIN/Colombo to connect with DEL-FRA/LHR/CDG in both directions.
