The New Zealand CAA is investigating a flight conducted by Pacific Blue Airlines (the NZ partner of Virgin Blue). According to reports, the aircraft took off from Queenstown and, due to incoming fog, stayed below 1,000' and conducted the flight visually for some time.

Queenstown Airport is the gateway to the southern Alps, a very scenic part of New Zealand. Many of the mountain peaks in the area are over 10,000'.
