As you may know, Air France has placed an order for four B 747-400LR Freighters.
Provided that they have a large number of B 747-400 Pax, as well as the B 747-400 Combi, do you guys think they will ever consider the B 747-400LR/LR Combi, when the time has come to replace their oldest B 747-400s?
I think they better off getting 10 to 15 B 747-400LR/LR Combi for some of their ultra long haul routes that do not require the capacity of an A 380, but the size of a B 747-400.

I have my doubts that AF will order the 747-400 Longer-Range.
I think there are three reasons for this:
1. The 747-400 fleet now in AF service are quite new planes, so they still have lots of airframe life left (at least another decade).
2. AF has ordered both the 777-200ER and 777-300ER, so routes that used to require the 747-400 will be filled by 777's.
3. AF has ordered the A380-800, which will be used as 744 replacements on AF's busiest long routes such as CDG-YUL, CDG-MIA, CDG-JFK, CDG-GIG, CDG-NRT, and so on. Besides, if the A388 lives up to its proposed specs AF will be able to fly them on routes over 7,500 nautical miles in range.

I've gotta agree with RayChuang here. I see no need for the new 744 at AF. The A380 will fill the most dense markets where their current 744s fly, and the 773ERs will probably eventually take over the remaining routes. Not right away, of course, as their 744s still have plenty of years of service in them, but except for the 744ERFs AF will get (and I can see a lot of those going to CDG), I don't see them placing orders for the 744ER.
P.S. - I know this is a small matter, but United Airline, you always seem to use the designation -400LR for the new aircraft. Boeing is actually designating them the 747-400ER.

Any airline that has the 744, is considering the 744LR. Whether they purchase them or not is another matter. I would bet my bottom dollar that United and British Airways have at least looked at the aircraft.
