This summer delta brought back SLC-FAI and frontier entered the DEN-FAI market.

Does anyone have any idea how these routes are doing? Both designed for the connections I'm sure to other markets.

I have a friend who flew FAI-DEN and he said his plane had probably 40% of the seats filled. Other than that one roundtrip have no other idea? anyone?

Don't know about FAI-DEN, but I just flew DEN-ANC-DEN and both flights were 100% full and overbooked... there were employees that have been trying to fly standby for 3 or more days and were stuck in ANC. I guess they should take a train to FAI and fly from there.

FAI is a very small market (about 50,000 people live in the area) not sure how those flights will do. Would be interesting to see some numbers for those flights.

Another question is does Condor and JAL still do those charters in the summer? If so is the Alaska wilderness that popular with Germans and Japanesse because they are not all going to see the city of Fairbanks not exactly much to see.

Thats pretty normal this time of year, Anchorage is a metro of over 350,000 and many people use ANC as their start off point to the popular sumemr Alaskan crusies.

I think both Frontier DEN-ANC and SLC-ANC on DL do amazing in the summertime......I'm wondering about FAI because my friend said how empty the flights were i am wondering if they were a fluke? I personally hope the routes come back next summer

You should try to get out of here around Christmas... good luck. Even on revenue tickets... without two weeks notice, you're simply buying a seat that doesn't exist.

Condor's flights are NOT charters, but scheduled. JAL, last I heard, was still doing charters both to ANC and FAI this summer.

Yes, it is. The Japanese are particularly drawn to the adults-only hot springs in Fairbanks and Chena. The thinking there is that it's good for fertility to be under the Northern Lights while in the hot springs. Yuck. The Germans also come to check out our unique collections of antique airplanes, most of which are still flying. Ran into three Austrians recently who were just about in hog-heaven over some DC-3s which were taxying about at ANC.

You also have to remember that FREIGHT is a big player for Alaska in the summertime. I have personally seen 8,000 pounds of Salmon loaded into the belly of a Denver bound Airbus. Can't speak for Fairbanks, but they've got fish up there, too.
