havent seen any post about this:
LH has received its 2nd 380. Part of the baptising ceremony (name is München) was a 90 minutes flight for PAX around the alps starting at MUC. Places cost 99 to 999 depending on class and seat. It did a low level (30m) flyby at SZG.

Mi Macc,
thanks for posting the link. I was on the first flight and can tell the maneuver at SZG was freakin' awesome! It was probably my best flight ever. One has to praise Lufthansa for organising such a special event.
Btw - D-AIMB was delivered on 16 July and ferried to FRA on July 21. It arrived at MUC early in the morning yesterday and returned to FRA shortly after 20:00. It will enter commercial service on 4 August on the FRA-NRT route.

Where did you buy the ticket - where they on regular online sale?
BTW you did a rather low pass over Munich as well. I heard the noise of engines in the afternoon from inside my house and was actually worried - the sound seemed not loud, but much, much too near. I immediately went out: nice view, but no camera at hand.

Isn't the first A380 on the FRA-NRT route? This route is so busy it requires two A380s? wow way to go LH.

Yes, I bought tickets for me and two others on LH's website on July 5 immediately after the sale had started. All seats were gone after a few hours. LH didn't advertise a lot, I read about the event on the "MUC Forum".

Yes, the weather was still nice at that time and I could enjoy good views of Munich.

Yes, but it takes more than 24 hours to operate FRA-NRT-FRA. So LH needs two A380s to offer daily flights.

Indeed, I got no information in advance so was not aware of this flight. Tried to make a booking later that day but indeed all seats were sold already. A shame really, since I was a day off and able to make the flight. I am looking forward to the report PH !

Quoting fn1001 (Reply 12): The bird was not allowed to land in Salzburg, because the runway is too narrow. Than why was the landing gear down?
For safety reasons. Should something bad happen, like bird ingestion causing multiple engine failure, the aircraft would already be in full landing configuration. LH runs a very tight ship, and are not in the business of taking chances or making beginners mistakes.

Most low speed flybys in heavy jets over runways are done in landing configuration. It allows pilots to approach the runway while following bog standard procedures, and also to allow for a lower speed (normal approach speed) as you can't extend full flaps unless the gear is down (well unless you can cope with the config warning horn and GPWS alerts).
There's a 'hot-shot' way of doing it too, but NOT with paying pax onboard...
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit posting...
