Your friend might have flown direct to DPS via HNL on Garuda, but the flights no longer are scheduled. When Garuda phased out the MD11's, both LAX and HNL were dropped and service to these destinations has not been restarted. I think most people going to DPS now from LAX connect via HKG or TPE.

When I was a travel agent Garuda used to fly LAX-HNL-somewhere in eastern Indonesia-DPS, with 747-200s. The LAX-DPS 747 service definitely had two stops. Anyone know what the other stop was? I think it was in Indonesia. Btw Indonesia is a tenth or a twelth of the world's circumference. And the most populous Muslim country in the world. I flew SYD-DPS-JKT-SIN on a pair of brand new A300-600Rs, I was very impressed by the airline. That was in Jan 1993.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

CedarJet..the routing on the B747-200 Combi
BIK is BIAK which is in Irian Jaya or the Western
Side of Papua New Guinea....
GARUDA actually started the route with a
DC-10-30..then switched to a combination of
the B747 and MD11..then just the MD11..
Service to LAX/HNL was suspended end of OCT 97.
There are rumors of a return to the US..but nothing
substantial to go along with it. I worked for
GARUDA for over 10yrs at LAX...

There is no way that any aircraft even a 747-400 can fly Jakarta to LAX non-stop,it does not have the range.I think you friend means its a direct service where there is no change of plane and the flight number stays the same.

I flew DPS-BNE-DPS by Garuda on a DC10-30 and I was less than impressed. A rather aging a/c with broken chairs and a seat table in front of me that went straight for the floor when I lowered it. I still wonder what the rest of the plane looked like, that was May 1997.
