I still don't understand how pax from non-preclearance Canadian and other intl non widebody DL flights are able to access McNamara's Immigration and Customs. I have read and seen primarily widebodies at the so called "international gates" which have direct access down there. Can somebody fill me in? I'm curious
FNT is the death knell for MBS and LAN because of WN's commitment

They park at those same gates. For planes such as A320s, etc., the jetway connects right up to them without any issues. For the Saab/CRJ flights from smaller Canadian cities, they have one gate where they go in through a door on the tarmac and it deposits them in the international arrivals area.

Yep.
Any flights where the passengers have to clear customs park at the international arrivals gates (all of which are widebody-capable) on the west side of A concourse.
There are several non-widebody international arrivals like:
MTY - E75 or CR9
MEX - A319
CUN, other Mexico Beach Markets - A319/A320
Canada cities without pre-clearance - SF3, CRJ
The jet bridges are capable of servicing the E75 and up. The Saab, CRJ, and CR9 have passengers deplane via the aircraft stairs and walk into a door that goes into the stairwell that goes down to the international arrivals area.
After deplaning and any necessary security checks, the Saab, CRJ, and CR9 are towed over to B/C concourse for departures to other cities. The E75 and up (Airbus, etc) just depart from those gates.
FYI, back in 2003-2005, when the C concourse was being rebuilt, NW converted 2 of the widebody international gates into regional aircraft parking, fitting 3 aircraft into each gate footrprint.
