Incident With Flight Departing From LA?

Hi all. I was just checking my facebook and a friend just posted that the flight he was on lost an engine over nevada (most likely engine failure) and had to turn back to LA

His ultimate destination was Greece so he could have been on any flight connecting in Europe.

I know it's rather vague but has anyone heard anything?

It's not quite polar but the shortest distance if you look at it on a globe.
