I noticed that DL has increased its frequency to Cairo to a daily B767 flight , is that only in the high season or all year round ?
Also , how is the Airline doing in Cairo load-wise ? Any plans to upgrade to a 777 ?

Are they still flying to Dubai ? What is the frequency and the A/C type ?

Then most probably , it is once daily year-round .
Is United supposed to start service to Cairo ? Currently , they are code-sharing with EgyptAir daily B777 flights on CAI-JFK .

Any idea about loads/performance of DL flights to both CAI and DXB ?

If all things go smoothly, CO will be starting EWR-CAI in May 2011, which will be during the transition period where CO will be operating as a subsidiary of United Continental Holdings.

Officially I don't know what the loads are like, but when I've taken the JFK-CAI flight (which has been a few times), it has been full or overbooked in both directions.

Now that the 767 has the new IFE, the flight isn't so bad...although I'd still rather have the 777 even if it meant non-daily service

Except sundays, DL8 ATL-DXB is a 772ER, according to Delta.com

The 767 with the PTV's through coach is the best this route is going to get for now, unless they put a 333/332 on the route as all of DL's 777 are committed to other routes, hopefully more profitable ones, at the moment.

Now I am all for DL to expand it's 777 fleet but that's another topic. It doesn't hurt that the 777 is one of my all time favorite airplanes.

This summer is the first time (since the JFK-CAI service restarted) it has gone daily. So far, the schedules loaded for winter 2010-11 shows the flight continuing with daily service even into January 2011.

Will all DL's Intl 763s get the PTVs ?

How many machines do have them so far ?

yes, all of DL's 763 International aircraft are to get winglets and PTV's in coach.

So far I believe only 7 of them have been retrofitted with PTV's in coach class. They are the 763's that are 12+ hour flight capable. They are scheduled to continue the modifications after the summer is over in september.

It will be interesting to see how the DL JFK-CAI service will fare once the CO EWR-CAI service starts up next year . What sort of impact ( if any ) do you see the new service having on DLs flight ?

Just as a clarification, I think it would have to be a 332 on CAI-JFK, and not a 333. CAI-JFK is 4879 nm on the great circle, which is about 400nm further than FCO-ATL, which I believe is DL's longest A333 route (that is about 200nm further than SEA-NRT). I am forgetting if the A333 got another performance upgrade like the A332 did, but with winter winds I can't imagine that the A333 could do it.

The B777's are not only more comfortable and modern than the B767's but they are also faster :

CAIRO-JFK On MS B777'S :

Airline: Egyptair MS985 e
Duration: 11:55
Aircraft: Boeing 777-200/300

While on Delta B767 :

12:10am
CAI 6:35am
JFK Nonstop 12 hr 25 min
Delta 85
Boeing 767

JFK-CAIRO on MS B777'S :

Airline: Egyptair MS986 e
Duration: 10:45
Aircraft: Boeing 777-200/300

On Delta B767 :

JFK 3:15pm
CAI

Nonstop 11 hr 20 min
Delta 84
Boeing 767

Well , it depends what version of the A333 , for example the LH A333's range is 10,000 km . The long range version of the A333 can fly up to 10,185 km with maximum load .
The flying distance between CAI and JFK is about 9,035 km (4879 nm) .
The A332's range is 12,500 km , so it shouldn't have any problems or restrictions if they opt to fly it to CAI .

Even with the newest 233 ton A333, it would not have the range to operate CAI-JFK in winter with significant headwind. You would need the A332.

Same thing goes for MS and their potential CAI-YYZ route (9,248 km great circle route). Putting the new A333s they just received on this route would be unthinkable. The A332 or B77W is preferred.
