Apparently a man onboard AA Flight 117 from JFK to LAX lit matches in the cabin and then ran to the lavatory when confronted. The plane made an emergency landing in ABQ as a precaution.

The reason New Mexico is so windy is because Texas sucks and Arizona blows.

Maybe he farted? It did say he ran to the lavatory.

TSA at JFK on a coffe or lunch break? I thought matches and lighters were taboo on the plane.
safe

If two people agree on EVERYTHING, then one isn't necessary.

Reinstated two years ago. Both are permissible. I am sure this will end again now.

I don't quite understand why lighters are allowed in the cabin (and I'm a smoker, for the record). Wouldn't it be safer to just ban lighters in the cabin and then equip each airport with a big ol' box of (cheap) matches for use at the curbside while folks are waiting to retrieve their checked bags?

During the last prohibition on them, I recall flying LAX-PDX and found that the smoking areas at both airports were equipped with "community" lighters left behind by some thoughtful smoker for common use. Seemed to work pretty well.

So why should we allow them in the cabin, after all?

Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!
