I've heard from easyJet managers that easyJet has indeed requested Slots at Frankfurt Airport.

Does anybody know how many daily/weekly slots have they requested and if they already have been grated! I've heard that they did request the slots for the new runway , which will be at the end of 2011!

Would FRA possible as the new easyJet base, as romours are around that they will open a new german base sometime in 2011.

Where would they want to fly to from FRA? I would think LTN (2x Daily), LGW (3x Daily), MAD (2x Daily), MXP (3x Daily), SXF !?!?! (up to 5 x Daily), BRS (Daily), LPL or MAN (up to 2x Daily), EDI or GLA (2x Daily) etc.

Any ideas?

Thye have applied for slots to operate 12xWeek to FCO and LGW, plus 6xWeek to EDI for winter 2010/11. However the times they have been awarded slots are quite some time away from what they requested

I think they may find it hard to eat into LH's share of this market. Much of LH's pax loads on this route seem to me to be connecting traffic any time I have travelled on it. Would there be enough business customers in the financial services industry to make this successful for easyJet?

If U2 and LH can compete on MAN-MUC with LH reporting a good rise in passenger numbers that they are carrying (June 2010 saw a 119% increase in passenger number on this route to over 25000), then there is no reason why U2 can't operate EDI-FRA without impacting on LH's ops.

The question is, who wants to fly with Easyjet? True is, that EZY has requested slots and they surely will get as many as they like., Fraport is eager to sell all of the 200.000 slots if possible right after the new runway opens.

However, if they keep going like they did in the past months, they might not be around in late 2011. There are nice articles about them in the newspapers about dealys and cancellations. They have no own personel and the handling agents are as uninformed about irregularities as the herd of self loading cargo.

I'd be already fed up when I have to wait in long lines at check-in/baggage drop counters with one agent handling a flight.

No thanks.

Sorry PANHAM, easyJet has more money in cash right now to fly a year without pax! Also which airline does have there own staff at airports nowadays? Check-IN and mostly Ticketing is covered by Handling Agents, thats what they are there for! At big bases like LTN (also in PMI, AGP etc.) they have their own Ticketing/Check_in and Ground Handling staff. I read the newspaper article myself and as one of my best friends works for them as a Flight Attandand I know that the staff is doing a great job that just their managment (in that Case Andy Harrison) did a bad job. They just got a new CEO and things are already improving. If you fly wíth Low Cost Airlines all over the world (i.e.easyJet, Ryanair, Southwest etc.) you get things like free seating etc. but also on the other Hand they are cheaper than other airlines and thats the reason why U2 has a load factor of over 85% yearound. And afterall ... everybody has a choice to fly with whom they want to!

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Spanish destinations or Athens from U2 at FRA.

You don't have to be sorry, I would not fly with them for free. we all know that airlines do not have own staff at airports but the number of staff contracted from a handling agent should be adequate. The US shows that low cost carriers offer kisok check-in and quick baggage drop. An airline that makes me stand in line more than 10 minutes does not get my business and 10 minutes is nothing with U2.

Oh, I almost forgot, Stelios would go ballistic if they fly a year without pax burning his money.

But isn't MAN - MUC a somewhat different market than EDI - FRA? I would ahve thought that MAN-MUC would have much more potential for O&D traffic than EDI-FRA.

That´s why SQ feels already very comfortable on the MUC-MAN route as well ...

It's all about what you expect! If you only pay some €40 oneway incl. Tax than you don't mind if you stand in Line! I usually on have carry-on with me, so I print out my boarding pass at home, so no need to go to an Check-In Kiosk!
Or If I have luggage I just go to the Baggage Drop Off!

I fly them and besides the delays in May/June I don't mind them! They are affortable and usually have very nice crew!

They are cheap only if you book months ahead, I cannot do that for a lot of reasons, flexibility and short notice appointments mainly. If I could book months ahead on Lh I would get € 99,00 return, check in at home, drop my bags at the business counter with little or no waiting time and even use the fast lane at security and use the lounge if time permits.

Beats U2 anytime.

When I'm GVA-based, I have two options: lose my savings on LH to FRA (unless it's for a connecting flight; that would be different), or take a seven-hour train ride there. Were EZS to open GVA-FRA, I for one would jump at it. Even with delays, that would help me with my work. I think businessmen trying to save a bit would, too. But I doubt LH would give in that easily.

49 EUR and 99 EUR is a big difference, for one-way on LH you can fly rtn with EZY so not really a valid point.

Not really fair comparing your LH FF status (allowing you business class check-in and priority security) with normal EZY pax. If you take EZY + card you can check in at SB+ check in which beats LH LHR check in any day.
