Hi folks ,
i have just arrived at CDG from YUL! I was to take flight 345 but it was cancelled due to an emergency landing of the a/c at Goose Bay for an apparent tech problem! No further info was given out and we were all put on another flight(too bad didnt get to fly the 77W for my first time)
Anyone here knows anymore about what happened

regards BM

Hi, they are talking about it on the local Montreal news. Somehow, they are even less info than usual. They say they think a fire alarm went off in the luggage compartment. No fire or smoke is confirmed although the crew declared an emergency because an unidentified system failed. An AF official just said that a 77W (he sais 777-300) is to take off within minutes from CDG to YYR.

461 passengers were on the flight and there was one payphone for all of them. Most of them slept on the base.

That's all I know for now.

Thanks for the info ! Wouldn't have liked to be in the place of all those passengers stranded at YYR and who must have certainly been scared when announced they had to have an emergency landing!
do you know what reg the a/c was and what finally happened to it?
you say another 77W is taking off from CDG to YYR! does that mean the 77W remained at YYR for repair or did it just go back to CDG to go back into normal rotations

Another B77W took off today from ORY (not CDG) to YYR to pick up the passengers. It is scheduled to land in YUL at 7:00PM LT.

From Transport Canada daily occurrence reports.

AFR344, Boeing 777-300ER, enroute from Paris (LFPG) to Montreal (CYUL), declared an emergency 280 nautical miles west northwest of Goose Bay (CYYR) due to a fire warning in the forward cargo area. The aircraft diverted to Goose Bay where it landed safely with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) on standby. There was no impact on operations.
