In the last two years there has been some significant consolidation which is likely to continue in the near future.
I was just wondering what kind of impact these mergers are going to have on global aviation market, especially on the transatlantic market between Europe and the US.
If you were to compare the following, who is likely to come out the strongest after all the mergers have been completed?
British Airways/American Airlines/Iberia
Delta Airlines/Northwest Airlines
Continental Airlines/United Airlines
Lufthansa Group
Air France/KLM Royal Dutch
Also, where does this leave other airlines, such as:

AA hasn't merged with anyone. They have been approved for a joint operating agreement with BA and that's all. Under current law, US carriers can't merger with a foreign carrier.

Strictly speaking, if you are going to put BA, AA and Iberia in bed together then you need to consider DL, AF, KL as a single entity and UA, CO, LH, and LX (for starters!) as a 'supergroup'.
Comparing like with like would give you (in alphabetical order)
AA
AF/KL
BA
DL
LH (+...)
UA/CO
In terms of size (revenue, passenger-Km, etc.) I'm guessing that
AF/KL
LH (+...)
DL
are way out front with AA and BA quite some distance behind. Where the merged UA and CO will sit, I'm not sure.
