I was looking for an update to the opening date of the new airport for Doha in Qater. Will it open this year ?

Hi! I worked in this project as a Civil Engineer a few years back. As of right now, there is no official opening date. But, it will definetly NOT open this year 2010. A few engineers say that it will open 11/11/11 and maybe the official opening will be Dec. 18, 2011, the national day of the State of Qatar.

They are expanding the new Airport and adding extra structures to it; so that is why there is a delay. The project is HUGE by all means!

There will be a new Arrivals Terminal to open in a month at the present DOH, which will make valuable space at the departure terminal.

I know they are still hiring construction management for it so it can't be too soon.

Can you provide any public link to the airport plans? I have traveled a few times on QR, but the current DOH airport / environment / outdoor / indoor situation is what is keeping me going back (ex-US) via SIN to Asia. Also, the bathroom/WC standards at the current airport -- are well below any decent standard due to the various type of contract/migrant workers there, IMHO

You can visit the offical site at www.ndiaproject.com but the site is NOT updated since a long time ago.
