Tarom (RO) To Standardize Fleet On A Or B

Current fleet of Tarom consists of:

2 Airbus A310-300 (both up for sale, spare engine and the 2 310's for 5 mil.)
4 Airbus A318-100
7 ATR 42-500
2 ATR 72-500 (newest regional additions)
4 Boeing 737-300
4 Boeing 737-700W
3 Boeing 737-800 (newest narrow-body additions)

They have stated that that will standardize on 1 manufacturer either Boeing or Airbus in the near future. Was wondering if anyone had a take which way is going to go. I am thinking Boeing, but I am not sure.

Previously they've had B707 and a DC-10 (leased) for a while, no other Airbuses that I know of.

Leased from ChallegAir in 1995 I think right after the crash of one of their A310's

From numbers alone (and the general unpopularity of the A318) I'd go for Boeing here... though you really never know (look at Easyjet for example!!)

You know since I am thinking about this, wonder why Tarom just doesn't convert those A310's to cargo? Romania does not have a cargo carrier that I know of, and there is plenty of manufacturing going on in that country. Wouldn't it be moore feasable since rather than essentially be unsused since they cnanot sell them to begin with?

Yeah, the fact that they are retiring the Airbus widebodies, that they only have 4 A318s (which according to the media nobody likes) and that there are 7 NG 737s, all suggest that RO will likely go with Boeing.

So, would the ATR's be retired too? I am sure there are routes where the ATRs are more efficient and right-sized compared to the 73Ws and A318s, so maybe those should stay.

I am sure that if RO does not want to convert them, somebody else will buy them and do so (FedEx maybe?).

Question: Do you think they will look at widebodies for flights to, say, JFK or ATL? Maybe they could operate a 788 efficiently and profitably to a DL hub such as JFK or ATL.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Not anytime soon... I think DL wil get their 787's and fly them to OTP before that happens. I am not sure what SkyTeam wants Tarom to do, as of now it seems that it is the Middle East-Europe SkyTeam connection...

On the other side, Tarom was looking into getting 2 B767-300ER's late 2007 early 2008 but did not get any....

I don't think Tarom even knows what to do with the A310's for the passed decade they were going between, sell them, store them, D checks on both in 2008 in Toulouse, fly them to LHR and TLV, store them again, charter them, now a few months back were hiring pilots for them, now sell them again...

ATR's are here to stay... They are negociating for the 72-600 series now according to both Tarom and ATR.(Farnborough)
