EgyptAir received its first of 5, brand new, Airbus A330-300s at 14:00 Cairo Local Time on Saturday the 28th of August.
Capt Alaa Ashour the Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir airlines flew the plane himself from Tolouse to Cairo!
This aircraft will operate the daily non-stop morning flight between Cairo and London Heathrow, as MS 777/778. From October 31st to December 31st, EgyptAir will delpoy another A330-300 to Dubai (DXB) as MS 910/911.
The new A330-300 will be the first Egyptair aircraft to feature onboard communications technology, enabling passengers to benefit from in flight mobile phone services and WI-FI internet access.
The following is quoted from several articles:
"The new A330-300 accommodates 301 seats, of which 36 in business class and 265 in economy class. All EGYPTAIR customers flying onboard the aircraft will be able to recharge their personal devices while relaxing on their elegant seats and they will be also able to sleep on their 160ْ Flat Beds, or they will indulge themselves in hundreds of entertainment options with personal entertainment system screened on the 15.4" screens.
Further, EGYPTAIR's newest A330-300 economy seats provide wider and more relaxing seats with personal entertainment system displayed on the back of every sear to enable the customers and their families from selecting from the best entertainment programs; this is in addition to providing electricity plug in every seat.
This aircraft embraces a number of the latest technologies; like using the wireless internet and personal mobile on board, besides using the GSM, SMS and GPRS services. The passengers flying onboard the new A330-300 will be able to make phone calls through their personal mobiles with the same international calls rate of their service providers, in addition to the ability of sending SMS and using the mobile internet service. Moreover, the customers will enjoy using the WI-FI service throughout their flight."
I think this is an important milestone for EgyptAir, and the delivery of the A330-300s, along with the continuous deliveries of the B777-300ERs (Which have the same comfortable, and modern interiors) will allow EgyptAir to develop a competitive long-hual product with World-Class standards. EgyptAir may stil have a long way to go, but it certainly is going forward

Did EgyptAir get rid of the 772s? Or will they be operating them along with the A330-300s?

They are getting rid of the 3 older B772's (built in 1997) , however it looks like they are keeping the 2 newer ones (built in 2001) for a bit longer .

Quoting egyptair269 (Reply 5): I was wondering about the same question myself, the B777-300ERs have lie flat beds, why not the A330-300s?
My guess is the A330's will be used on regional medium-haul routes and the B777-300ER's will be used on long haul routes. Or maybe, just as LH decided not to put full flat beds in their A380's, they see more value in adding more J seats.

Hey, mabrouk 3al jamei3 =)
Can't wait to try the new MS A333. Do the 77Ws have in-flight WiFi as well? It didn't occur to me to try using my laptop when I flew the bird.
Would love to see future 738s come with PTVs as well-not even QR/EY/GF have that luxury on their narrowbodied a/c.

I'm wodering how old the 772 I was on in 2005 was, the service and flight were great, and the plane still looked quite new, at least up front where I was...

It must have been one of the 2 (newer ones) that were delivered in 2001 , SU-GBP/R/S are the older B777's that are supposed to leave the fleet in 2010/2011 .

The only difference is between the 77W and the A330-300 is the following: A) The A330-300s have wi-fi, and mobile roaming service, the B77W does not. B) The B77W Business class is completely lie flat, whereas the A330-300 Business class is not completely lie flat, but very close, 160 degrees I think.
However, both aircraft have Touchscreen PTVS (AVOD) in both classes. I think the measurements are 15.4" in Business, and 10.4" in Economy.
Quoting directorguy (Reply 8): Would love to see future 738s come with PTVs as well-not even QR/EY/GF have that luxury on their narrowbodied a/c.
My thoughts exactly. This would be incredible if EgyptAir decides to do this. The B738 Business Class, has an excellent PTV, AVOD system. It would be good if EgyptAir does the same in Y, because these planes are flying medium-haul routes to Europe, and Africa.

Welcome , I was searching Youtube on my Apple TV and it looks great on the big screen Very tempted to transit Cairo next time. I wonder if the Wireless is free or charged in Y? Will be great for those with Netbooks/iPads etc..

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but MS has shelved the A330-300 on the CDG Route:
