Hello all,
I used to be able to have 1 stop at JFK to fly to Romania from MCO. Now, I have to do at least 2 stops one in the US, one somewhere in Europe. (unless I fly British)
Do you guys know if the JFK-OTP route will come back next year by any chance? Tarom joines SkyTeam recently, wouldn't that mean that DL could tap into routes that Tarom serves and DL does not? Or are there any such routes??
Anyways, what do you think? Could Tarom joining SkyTeam mean that the route could be profitable??? I hope so since I really hate CDG, AMS and especially LGW

Quoting fpetrutiu (Reply 2): Always get stuck in AMS because of usually short connection times but it is the better one our of the once mentioned. The best thus for me was FRA.
I don't mean to be harsh, but it's not the airport's fault your connection was short and consequently you got stuck. There are tons of flights from AMS/CDG to OTP.
Where aviation is not the side show, it's the main show!!!
I don't like it either - the connection itself is usually fairly easy, but I always feel like I've walked halfway across Holland by the time I've reached my connecting gate!
Public service announcement: "It's" = "it is". To indicate posession, write "its." Looks wrong, but it's correct grammar

It's not much different from FRA and compared with the zoo at CDG AMS is an excellent airport and SkyTeam is lucky to have it.

More flights, more fun!

Not sure if it's really worth holding you breath for it. They will send one of their old, tired 767s to OTP (as they send to PRG, TXL, BUD and elsewhere).
In my opinion Delta offers much better value for money on their codeshared flights on KL and even AF metal (and JFK is just as PITA to transfer at as is CDG anyway).

There is a thread about US-Croatia flights. Romania is in a similar situation. Probably only NYC and ORD could operate flights, but mainly low yielding O&D (VFR traffic), heavily seasonal, with minimal (if any) profit. If the market was there, we would see nonstop service. Easier and more cost effective to route via LHR, CDG, AMS, FRA, etc.

IAD may be able to support it with the large international community in the DC area. Having that said, I doubt it would ever happen. If anywhere in the US could support service to OTP, it would absolutely be JFK.

I was only thinking about the ability to connect to Tarom flights might make enough of a change in the market conditions to warrant a direct flight from JFK. I mean, you could connect to Moldova, Bulgaria, Thesaloniki (Greece), Damascus, Beirut and other destinations DL does not serve and Tarom does.
I do agree that only JFK would be the only place where you could do a direct flight from.

I travel to Romania a lot. Unfortunately, the global economic downturn has cut business travel to OTP. Even if VFR continues, most airlines are not going to fly to Romania from the U.S. unless they can fill the front cabin consistently. The airlines no longer are competing over routes. The name of the game now is load factor and capacity control.
