I was wondering if the folks at Lockheed ever looked at developing the L-1011 into a bigger and better aircraft(like MD with the dc10/md11).Any info would be welcome.

I think Lockeed was long out of the airliner business before any real design work was done on an improved L1011. While a technologically fantastic and asthetically pleasing aircraft, they really got stung on this one.


What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.

Actually, they have been looking at upgrades to the aircraft over the last 20 years or so - ranging from engine/avionics upgrades (as with the MD10) through freighter conversions (Lockheed 2000).

They lost US$250 million on the project. They built 250 aircraft. Therefore, if they had charged just US$2m more per aircraft, they'd have made a profit of US$250m!! Big grin Big grin Big grin
