Delta is operating a DC-9-50 on the CVG-GRR flight this evening Sept. 1, 2010. The flight is listed on Delta.com and Flightaware.com for today only.

Does anyone have any details?

Probably a reposition flight to start off the new schedule which starts tomorow.

There are some one-time positioning flights occuring today being the first of the month. It appears to be a scheduled sub in for a ERJ/CRJ pattern for today only. Through August, this routing had been flown by Freedom which after yesterday is no longer a DCI carrier. For today only, as aircraft are repositioned across the network it is being flown with a spare DC-9-50 out of DTW. Effective tomorrow and forward it will be flown with an ASA CRJ.

The aircraft is doing a DTW-CVG-RIC-CVG-GRR (RON) - DTW routing today, returning to DTW tomorrow morning.

Yeah, I think there's a CR9 operating one of the CRW-DTW runs tomorrow.. and DL has an embargo on 51+ seat acft here so its's clearly a repositioning flight of some sort.

Why do they prohibit greater than 50 seats?

That's a sarcastic joke of mine because none of the legacies will schedule anything larger than a CR2 here, and I find the situation comical.
