Maybe best to discusss CHC airport in this thread due to this disaster instead of in the New Zealand Aviation Thread

All Qantas mainline and Jetstar flights cancelled from Christchurch today. Apparently the runway and terminal bldg has sustained damage. Downtown looks pretty nasty.

HI

Christchurch resident here...

Major damage to buildings in CBD, fortunately due to the quake striking at 04.35 local time there were no fatalities. Domestic terminal at CHC closed due to structural damage.

Worst affected areas of city, Avonhead and Kaiapoi just outside city. Village of Darfield, closest to epicentre sustaining severe damage to buildings, again thankfully no fatalities.

Government impose curfew in CBD from 7pm local time due risk of flash fires and building collapse from expected aftershocks. 21 aftershocks so far the biggest being 5.3

Quoting miami1 (Reply 2):

According to the CHC airport flight schedules, all QF and JQ flights are operating but are delayed between 30mins - 5 hours. Looks like all NZ and PacBlue flights have caught up to their schedule except for JQ on domestic

This would answer my question why the aircraft which operates SYD-CHC EK418 - CHC-SYD EK419 was parked at Sydney International Freight terminal...
