All Qantas mainline and Jetstar flights cancelled from Christchurch today. Apparently the runway and terminal bldg has sustained damage. Downtown looks pretty nasty.

Major damage to buildings in CBD, fortunately due to the quake striking at 04.35 local time there were no fatalities. Domestic terminal at CHC closed due to structural damage.
Worst affected areas of city, Avonhead and Kaiapoi just outside city. Village of Darfield, closest to epicentre sustaining severe damage to buildings, again thankfully no fatalities.
Government impose curfew in CBD from 7pm local time due risk of flash fires and building collapse from expected aftershocks. 21 aftershocks so far the biggest being 5.3
