I remember that in 1995-1996, after a long break in the aviation industry, sir Freddie Laker started up Laker Airways operating 3 DC-10's on charter and some scheduled flights from Florida, with the UK destinations being PIK, MAN and LGW. Are they still around and if not, what happened to them?

They are now flying for Driftwood Vacations (www.gbvac.com) as L.B. Limited using 727-200s.

My dad just recently flew on an airline that was Laker something (I think it was airways) from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas. It was a chartered flight and unfortunately I don't know what kind of plane it was.

The Bahamanian airline operation was totally separate from the U. S. airline that Sir Freddie set up with a rich Texan (I believe he was from Texas) with DC10's to London from MCO, FLL and MIA. The Bahamian operation is still running. The U. S. airline ceased operations. They had two DC10-30's and one DC10-10 as a spare - the -10 had to stop in Bangor for fuel on the way back from London. It's a shame that it didn't work out for Sir Freddie and the Laker employees.
