I dont normally bother to take photos in flight, but had my camera out as this was on board the AF A380 CDG - LHR.

We were in a holding pattern to the east of London and I recognized STN and we flew over the Thames estuary right over the Dartford Crossing and then this airfield shortly afterwards, and we flew in a circle three times.

I assumed it was Biggin Hill, but a quick check of google maps shows it is not. Not Redhill either, nor Headcorn as I went there.

I checked out Southend, Stapleford, Duxford, North Weald & Elstree in case I was going mad and was back over the river again, which we must have done to have gone over the Dartford bridge 3 times.

I know someone on here will be able to identify it!

No, you'd see G-BDXJ in the shot if so.

You're right. It's not that field.

That's Dunsfold, where they used to build Harriers.

It is most definatley Dunsfold (of TopGear fame). Looks like the 747 has been moved.

The runway and taxiway layout is very different from pic YVRLTN posted in flickr

Doh, sorry. I was looking at oly720man's pic in reply 5, rather than the OP's photo.

Feeling a tad stupid now!

It's RAF Kenley as per blooBirdie's post.
The photo is taken facing south.
It's nearer to Redhill and Gatwick than Dartford crossing...

Bingo - thanks blooBirdie. Thought I knew all the airfields in London, but never heard of this one. It did occur to me after posting there was a distinct lack of aircraft on the ground and markings on the runway and other infrastructure.

Headed over the Dartford Crossing and turned right and I was sat on the left of the plane.

Must have been going way faster than I thought - soon is relative I guess. Thats quite the holding pattern actually, circle STN & Kenley three times.

Well I must be one of few a net members to have actually flown out of Kenley.
In fact my first ever flight was a 5 min hop in a RAF Wessex in 1964.
