I am applying for a Delta Air Lines internship and would really like to win an internship from Delta. I am wondering if anyone on this site has information on specifics of the internships as well as any tips on receiving an internship. All information is more than appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I just completed an internship with American but I have friends that have done the Delta one as well. I never applied for Delta but I can tell you from my experience is don't try to bullshit your way through any interview they give you. I think Delta gives you a phone interview before they proceed any further so make sure your good with that. I've met the internship coordinator from Delta before and she is pretty sharp. Be honest with every answer. I also think it helps a lot to know a bit about the company. Most importantly, on your application, spell the name of the airline correctly.

I agree with everything said above. And also, don't focus on what the company can do for you. The company knows what they can do and they know they are good. Talk about what makes you unique and what you can do to help the company. In other words, what can you bring that nobody else can. Differentiate yourself, make sure you stand out -- in a good way.

You might be missing the section of their websites that say careers.

American, Delta, Southwest, Mesa, Continental, AirTran

Internships are pretty much what any internship is, its an internship. Basically college students usually juniors and seniors with in an aviation management management background and usually at least a commercial pilot certificate are given the opportunity to spend a semester or two with an airline doing various tasks and doing a lot of job shadowing. When I did mine I was in the flight office at ORD for the whole summer. I also got to do tons of activities only pilots or upper management personnel experience.

Tons of airlines are offering Spring and Summer internships. American, Southwest, Airtran, Delta, Continental are just a few... check the career sections of their websites. If you're in a management program at a college, talk to your professors or someone who would handle careers.

Well that's just it. I have checked websites. I see nothing on Delta's, nothing on American's, AirTran I see the info, but nothing about actually applying, and Southwest has information about the 2009 year, and nothing about applying now..

Just another thought, but since school has also just begun for most universities around the country, likewise so have most internships. I would give it a while before you see the airlines start opening up applications as they are swamped with getting their new interns into the grove. I would say maybe a few weeks to a month.

Another suggestion is to find out who your internship coordinator is at your school (If there is one) and ask them for help as they usually have connections and a more direct route for applying.

Also, check out job posting websites. I know when I did my internship the company had also put the application on Monster.com. I don't think many airlines do that, but its worth a look. And do not forget about Corporate or Cargo internships! There are many more sectors of aviation to become involved in than just the airlines! I know UPS and FEDEX offer internships, and from what I hear they take VERY good care of you.

Here's a few I've noticed recently: http://www.aacareers.com/college/ and WN http://www.southwest.com/html/about-southwest/careers/index.html
Frontier used to offer a few in flight ops but has since been discontinued after the exit from chapter 11. I have a friend who participated in the WN one and loved it, I'd have to see if Delta is still offering some.

aaaand it's gone.

It's an internship for college students, but pay close attention to the very important advice N6238P gave in reply 1...

I went to GATech as an Aerospace Engineering major and a lot of my Aerospace Engineering friends co-oped at Delta. At least for TechOps, all you need is good academic standing and be in an engineering major.

Here is the Delta link: http://www.deltajobs.net/college.htm
