Hi All,

I am at PHL connecting onto a USAirways flight and see a SQ A340-500 oddly here at PHL. Was it a diversion or a charter?

Thanks,
BP1

PHOTO SCREENER

Looks like a diversion. It appears that they held around the NYC area for a bit before flying over to PHL. Get a photo!

According to flightaware:

Newark Liberty Intl (KEWR) is currently experiencing:

* arrival delays for airbone aircraft of 46 minutes to 1 hour (and increasing) due to low visibility

* all inbound flights being held at their origin until Monday at 01:30PM due to thunderstorms

Weather in NY and New Jersey last night and today. Our 9PM departure on DL left the ground after midnight putting us into LAX after 3AM. Lightning storm delayed the Jets-Ravens game for 1/2 hour tonight as well.

It is too dark for a photo with BB phone but will try. Amazing to see it when it landed by all the USAirways tails at the International terminal. Right now it is in a holding area by Gate F21-F23 at PHL. Don't know if the pax cleared US Customs or if they are waiting for fuel - duty time???

Cheers,
BP1

Looks like there were also 3 CO 752's diverted to PHL from TPA, PHX and LAX. An M80 was also diverted to PHL while doing CVG-JFK (Though M80's are usual sights in PHL). Meanwhile it looks like the daily BA 772 LHR-PHL was diverted to St. Johns, British Columbia

British Columbia would be a pretty major diversion for LHR-PHL , assume you meant St Johns , Newfoundland ?

Thanks for the correction. For some reason I had British Columbia on my mind

Maybe SQ flew in one of their A340-500's into PHL, for US Airways to test drive and see how they fly... In preparation for them buying a few, to service the much awaited PHL to Japan and China routes!

On a more realistic note, bet the passengers on that flight were not too happy after flying an 18hr non-stop flight from SIN, and then been told they were diverting and have more hanging around. But thats the way the cookie crumbles, when there is bad weather!
