Complementing its existing routes to RHO, namely from BGY and PSA, FR has today announced its third route to RHO - from CIA. This will start in December. Source: http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/ryana...-millionth-passenger-to-from-italy

Also, FR has now carried 100m people to/from/within Italy since 1998.

"Since its first Italian flight departed London-Stansted to Venice Treviso in May 1998 Ryanair has opened 10 Italian bases and now offers flights on over 330 routes from 23 Italian airports. In 2010 Ryanair will carry over 22 million passengers to/from Italy.

Ryanair’s growth in Italy continues in 2010 with 116 new routes to/from Italy (12 from Rome Ciampino Airport)."

Great news for Ryanair and of course passengers flying to/from Italy with them. I was just 7 or 8 when Ryanair launched those first three routes from Stansted to Treviso, Pisa and Rimini and now they've got literally hundreds or routes and over 100m passengers so whether you like them or not, this is just another example of Ryanair's massive success.

I thought Rhodes was primarily a summer destination for sun-hungry Scandinavians... do Italians go there during winter for some special reasons?

I don't think there are any flights from Northern Europe to Rhodes or Kos during winter.

Almost all Europeans go there for vacations all year round, but north Europeans remain the majority.
