I don't get it... they already fly to Phoenix from CID (Cedar Rapids), and that's less than 1-1/2 hours away.

G4 has done very well out of IGW/AZN. In fact, the terminal expansion is due to open in November. The terminal expansion will increase the baggage claim areas (desparately needed) and add two gates.
Arizona is a huge draw for Midwesterners. There are a lot of people from IL, IA, and other surrounding states that now call Arizona home part of the year or have permanently relocated. This route will due especially well during the peak season due to the snow birds, vacationers, and Spring Training fans.

Wow, that was quick. I was semi-expecting Phoenix to be announced sometime in the future, but not a month before LAS even starts! I've heard people around the airport say that Phoenix is the top destination for all connecting passengers out of MLI, so I'm sure we can fill the planes. And right now, although CID has the Phoenix flights, I know that there are a lot of people from the Quad City area that drive there, so now we'll be be retaining those customers. I'm very excited about this, and I have to congratulate Bruce Carter. He lost the FL service to ATL and turned around and gave us LAS and Phoenix service!

Yes, I agree 100%.
I think it's a good thing they are connecting us to another western destination. With the airport pushing on AirTran to give us some flights back, I think it'd hurt our argument to add more competition to the routes AirTran is strong on. (YES, I know FL serves PHX, but they are much stronger out east than they are out west.)
Either way, more flights out of moline is a good thing.

Quoting GSPSPOT (Reply 6): Good for MLI, but we're not feeling much love from G4 here in the East these days...
G4 said months ago that 2010 would be focused on the west after growing in the east the past couple of years.

I think the route will do fine, But look how Peoria/Springfield/Champaign/Marion/Bloomington (maybe this was FL) did. Granted that was during the worst fuel hike in history. Considering that Allegiant draws crowds from surrounding areas, Moline-Phoenix may pull from Rockford/Cedar Rapids just a little bit

No amount of G4 service would ever get the bitter taste of FL's departure out of my mouth. It's good they're getting something though... can't really get anywhere but at least it's seats that will be filled.

little surprised they started this with CID so close. Hope they dont cannibalize their own service. CID needs the service it has, DL downsized us to focus on MLI, hope G4 doesnt do the same

LOL, now you know how cities in the west were feeling as Allegiant opened MYR, PGD, etc. Time for some attention to us out in the west.
Quoting GSPSPOT (Reply 10): Seriously, whatever happened to a new destination in the NYC/NE area??
My guess is that the opportunity to go elsewhere such as Hawaii shoved it back a few years.

IGW/AZN? You mean IWA/AZA? Things have eased up with their temporary baggage claim tent outside -- which no doubt has sucked all summer long -- but gives them a little relief. The outside structure of the building is nearly complete and should open in the next 30-45 days.
I say this every time G4 adds a new route to IWA, but it really astonishes me how quickly they've grown here. It's been so cool for me to see them go from 1-2 flights a day four years ago to having 7 aircraft on the ramp at the same time last week. Now I'd just love for them to add some destinations that I want to fly to! (sorry, Grand Forks or South Bend aren't particularly interesting vacation destinations for someone living in constant sunshine)

Really? Have you looked into any of the Oregon, Colorado, and Montana destinations from IWA? Lots to do! Rapid City and Bellingham would be nice, too.
Personally, I think COS could be a good next focus city for them. Colorado as a leisure destination from an ideal central location, and a larger population draw than FTC, PUB, or GJC.

Im finally glad to see that Moline is getting some flights to some NON Hub airports.....
They need more Origin Destination cities like this. Frequent flyer points might be a marginal incentive to use a connecting hub but the more destinations that are served on a Nonstop basis such as this are alot better....
Thats just my opinion.....
As for Cedar Rapids, who cares about them...Cedar is always stealing passengers from Moline because for some reason they seem to get more flight options than does Moline, which kind of boggles my mind.......Kudos to the QCA Airport Authority for finally getting Allegiant onsite....Now what they need to do is secure that long desired Nonstop to DCA.....
Im wondering if Allegiant will try St. Pete Next..With Air Tran doing the runs to McCoy in Orlando, I dont think they would try to do Sanford...
Anyway, Congrats Moline for landing both Mesa and Las Vegas!!!!!!!!!

Well, Cedar Rapids is somewhat more convenient for me, and for most of the people in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. Plus, not only does it draw from those two areas, but from Waterloo, as well. That said, MLI has consistently had lower fares than CID, so with more flight options, it would probably be my first choice despite being farther away.

Ditto. The rate of growth is amazing. In fact, I've heard that G4's rapid growth has made the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority consider moving up the start date of the east terminal project.
