Well its been a while since I’ve done one of these – so I guess its time for another update on everyone’s favorite sleepy little airport, Burbank.

So here’s what’s new, well what I could find, it’s not much…

Alaska Airlines – well actually a fair amount of stuff. Today will be the first flight of a new generation Alaska 737 to Burbank, a 737-700, it will arrive as AS470 from Portland, OR at 9.59pm. Also on Monday Alaska will be up to seven [yes 7!] daily departures, up from the current six. The 7A departure to PDX and SEA will switch to just SEA non-stop, a 1026 PDX flight will be added, along with an 1109 SEA flight. So total PDX: 3, SEA: 4. As it seems flights will alternate but its should be 2 734s, 3 73Gs, and 2 MD80s regularly, [although it should alternate 2 73Gs 3 M80s and vice versa]. While I’m a devoted MD80 fan, I’m happy they’ve finally put NGs into BUR – they’re quieter and much more efficient than MD80s and 734s, and Los Angeles already has enough pollution, so I’m welcoming them, I’ll be flying one next week to PDX. Also I was checking PDX flights for Thanksgiving, I know a ways off, but I figured for once we won’t buy are tickets a week before, anyway its seems that the old schedule is back by winter and 5 MD80s, one 734.

America West – same old, 6 PHX flights, around 4 733s, 2 A319/20s.

American will add a third flight to Dallas/DFW in either August or September. This flight will depart around 1130A, and will be operated by a MD80, as are their other two flights.

Southwest/FedEx/UPS – don’t know, sorry. Let’s hope WN keeps up the NGs.

United – not much new, the 727 is still around, operating a morning flight to DEN, and arriving in the evening from DEN. From what I can glean the last 722 flight is departing September 4th. But don’t quote me – it’ll be sad, and missed, but the plane is so noisy and bad for the environment I guess it’ll be okay. They’re replacing it with a 733, but we need A319s or A320s here, they’re a change and quieter.

Well, to all who are interested in this I hope you enjoy. Ironically, for me at least, I can see BUR departures from school, not home, and I’m out of school June 14th [but that’s a good thing, a very good thing]

Hi,

What about that little airline, Air Laughling flying the Bullhead - Burbank route? Last time I checked they were offering fares as low as $59 round trip. They fly there 4 x weekly.

Thank god for Alaska putting a 737NG is the rotation of BUR service, the 737-700 is nice looking plane, even if it is for a little while. I don't think I would like BUR as much if it weren't for the loud and low departures done by MD80's, long live the MD-80!
I was looking at this jumpseat FedEx website and they have a Boeing 727 down coming in from DFW, flight #1165 in at 12:46 Zulu, I can't think for the life of me what that would be in Burbank, (I'm sure a much brighter will read this and clear that up), it then leaves BUR as #1165 for SJC at 14:01 Zulu. But since I don't live in Burbank I can't comfirm this, it maybe all B.S. Also FedEx has there A306 coming in from SAT and then leaving 7:30pm for Memphis.
here's a link that webiste:
http://www.fedexpilot.org/Jumpseat/Results.asp
I frequently track flights out of BUR on Flight Tracker and it appears that UPS keeps up it's 7:45pm(That's not Zulu Time) departure with it's Boeing 757-200PF.
By the way has anyone seen Southwest's new Color Scheme at BUR yet?
Latinplane- I didn'nt know they had a new airline in flying to Bullhead, that's great, do you know what type aircraft?
N960AS- I always enjoy your updates, I'm glad to see that someone keeps up BUR tabs for us Burbank fans! Not to rub it in, but I've been out for Summer for two weeks!
Have a nice day! Smile/happy/getting dizzy

960AS:

The addition of a 3rd flight is good news for AA at BUR! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the MD-80 but for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they won't bring in either a 757 or 737-800 for at least the higher temp. summer departures. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, I've seen them lighten the load so many times in summer, especially during a NE wind with the slightly uphill Rwy.33 departure. Where did you get this info. from?

Latinplane:

Air Laughlin still is flying to Laughlin 4 or 5 days a week. I know they don't fly on Saturday. Fares are cheap but they're not catching on yet.

FedExHeavy:

FedEx normally has 3 departures a day, Monday-Friday. Not sure of the Flt.#'s but the first 727-200 departs just after 7am for LAX. The A300F departs for MEM at 7:30pm and another 727-200, sometimes a -100, departs around 8pm for AFW. This flight has gone to SJC though on rare instances?

N960AS, your updates rule!

Thanks again, I'm going to the parking lot tonight at long term parking where the new tower is located. There is a place located at the extreme SW part of the parking lot that is great for viewing. If you're going, see you there. I should be there around 9:00.

I called AA reservations to confirm the addition of a 3rd BUR-DFW flight and this flight will begin on August 1, with a MD-80 departing BUR at 11:28am.

FedExHeavy: To answer your question about Air Laughlin, this is operated by Casino Express, using a 737-200.

FedEx and B731 --Awww, thanks I'm glad you guys enjoy the updates.

Jabpilot --I got the info from travelocity, haha, I was checking flights for a trip to SEA in August and just started playing around. As for the 738, well here are my guesses why there are none. First of all there aren't any AA 738 flights to/from DFW until September I think. I could be wrong, so don't quote me. Also the 738 is a 727 replacement, there are no AA 727s to BUR, or it is used to enhance flights operated by MD80s that could use more capacity [ie LAX-ORD] and I think their 3rd DFW flight is all of the enhancements at BUR we'll see for a while. As for the 752, well larger capacity, they'd probably have some issues with that.

FedEx --yah, I saw a new color WN NG once, during English. Hmm, I have a big final tomorrow, so um, good for you you've been out of school, but you can keep it to yourself for now[j/k].

B731--The parking lot? I'll have to check that out, I actually don't really go 'spotting' that much, other than when I'm at the airport for a flight, but have fun seeing the 722.

Air Laughlin, I saw a white 732 fly over once around 1100am as I was with some friends 'studying' for a math test in the courtyard at school.

Jabpilot- Thanks for the info on FedEx ops out of BUR, I forgot about the flight into LAX. I think that would rock if American started B738 ops out of BUR, or a B752. I remember United everyonce and a while had a B752 in and of course UPS has there flight to Louisville with there 757. American has so many MD80's that it wouldn't surprise me that they would remain in BUR service for quite sometime, but I think a Boeing 738 is a question of when. Hopefully Air Laughlins service will kick in soo, I hate to see another airline start BUR service and then they don't get any profit off the route *cough* Reno Air *cough*, is Air Laughlin operating out of the Gate formally used by Skywest and Reno Air?

N960AS- You should change your name to the Update King!, have a good summer man.

Well gotta go watch Six Feet Under, catch you all later.

Have a nice day! Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hi my name is Andy, and i'm new. I always go with my friends to burbank airport to watch planes. It gets boring sometimes. What they should do is have more varieties of aircrafts just like A319S, which is more quiet
during take-off then the B737s.

Andy.

It's good to know that someone else that watches the mostly Boeing 737 action at BUR. Your right there should be more A-319, A-320 action, variety is always good and variety is something BUR is a little short on, and has been for awhile. I really don't mind the 737 traffic there though, even if it is the majority of airliner traffic, in the end I just like watching planes, what I don't like are the periods when nothing comes out of BUR, when it's nothing but a few cessnas, then I go back inside and watch some T.V.
