Did Swiss Air Ever Operate YYZ-FRA-ZRH?

Did the Swiss Air fly from YYZ to ZRH via FRA using DC-10s during the mid to late 80s? I was only 6 years old when I flew from Budapest to Toronto but I could swear that we stopped at FRA or some other large European airport on the way back to Zurich. I still remember transferring in Zurich and flying a Malev TU-134 back to Budapest.

Did 5th freedom rights exist back in the 80s? Or were rules more lax about multi-city stops for TATL flights?

My mom seems to think that we also flew Air Canada from FRA to YYZ via LHR on a B742 or L1011, is that possible?

I’m just trying to make sense of my fuzzy memories, any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

KrisYYZ

Not unless it was a diversion for weather or other operational reason. Swissair's YYZ service was always YYZ-YUL-ZRH (YUL replaced by YMX when international flights used Mirabel).

Don't think so but someone with access to AC schedules can probably confirm.

I flew Swissair in the mid '80's on a DC-10 from YYZ as well. It was YYZ-YMX-ZRH; perhaps you are confusing the YMX stop

I just looked at the Summer 1986 Air Canada timetable. 4 days of the week they flew an L-1011 YYZ-FRA-ZRH. 2 additional days of the week they flew YYZ-YMX-CDG-ZRH. That service alternated between an L-1011 and 747

I flew in the mid 80's with SR to Toronto with B743 and the routing was ZRH-GVA-YMX-YYZ.

That sounds right. I guess I mixed up the airline and aircraft type. Thanks PITrules!!

If you had any stops before reachin ZRH, it was almost certainly in GVA, as FlySwiss says.

SR used to route many of their intercontinental flights GVA-ZRH-Elsewhere or ZRH-GVA-Elsewhere.

Nowadays, GVA is lucky to get the daily to JFK

SR never operated ZRH-GVA-Canada. If memory correct, the only SR North American destination (other than JFK) served nonstop from GVA was LAX. GVA was an intermediate stop from ZRH before they dropped the GVA stop and began ZRH-LAX nonstop service.

SW served YYZ-YMX-ZRH. There may have been occasional YYZ-ZRH or YYZ-GVA-ZRH scheduled briefly but I don't recall any.

Equipment was primarily D10 in the 80's and M11 in the 90's. Some DC-8-62 subs in the early 80's and 743 subs in the late 80's/early 90's.

There was never SW service from YYZ to FRA

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.
