Heh. Figures.

Hopefully, he also has time for some of the more minor details, you know, little things like labor negotiations and technology integration.

Does the new safety demo use United's "Rhapsody in Blue", Continental's "Work Hard, Fly Right" production music, or something different altogether?

Must be *very very* new.

I did three legs on UA last Saturday-Sunday [IAD-DEN / DEN-SNA / LAX-IAD] and we had the regular UA safety video.

Was on the Airbus. Actually, the video was not supposed to be played until Oct 1st, but the crew did anyway. Shows a 777 in the new livery and Jeff talks about upcoming changes.

I was actually about to ask if it might not have been pre-loaded recently for use starting on Friday and someone goofed when they went to play the current video...

Hope Continental got rid of that repetitive jazz rift in the background. Not a fan.

I HATED that music. I thought it was much too cheesy.

But then again, the narrators of the UA video bother me as well...

That music is a total disaster. The intro in the first 3-4 seconds is good, along with the last 3 seconds, but that piano music is HORRIBLE!!! I hope they bring back the Continenal music for the majority of the video, or record a version of rhapsody that is faster, more energetic, and more alive. Delta set a new standard with Deltalina, time for the new UA to step up!

It's just a very choppily made introductory transitory video. The clouds at the beginning: WTF is that? They should at least have the new United logo pop up when they pop up. The Jeff Smisek speech is whatever, typical in the least but comes off as rushed at the same time to get it over with.

I recall the day DL merged with NW they came out with this great 9 minute video about how positive the merger was going to be from both DL and NW employees. It was a fantastic and optimistic way to blend the two airline cultures together. Now granted, it's technically only day one for the new UA but I'd hope they do something like this in the near future. CO hasn't always been the best with commercials and advertising so I worry a little bit. Hopefully former UA marketing can pick up the slack in this department.

The clouds in the UA/CO post-merger safety videos are where the CO logo appeared in the pre-merger CO safety video. It also had the CO "Work Hard, Fly Right" background music as opposed to the post-merger "Rhapsody in Blue":

I meant that would have been perfect to put the new United logo in that spot. Why they didn't do it is beyond me.

Its ok. The best CO video used to be the one with Chavon. I havent been able to find it.

I used to like the old pre-2008 music that went: bum bum buh buh buh buh. buh buh buh buh.

Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue is a masterpiece, considered around the world to be the most signifcant piece of original American music. UA, through it's ad agency, has commissioned various interpretations and arrangements of the piece. The arrangements created for United have been recorded by groups such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, members of the Juliard School of Music and Herbie Hancock amongst others. It's a classic, elegant and timeless piece of music that can be arranged in different tempos to suit the marketing need. It's quite powerful and the new UA would be wise to continue using it.

What CO uses in their safety videos is not "music." That's some kind of free 20 second MP3 download of unlicensed electronic junk.

I'm still underwhelmed by how it's been used in the safety videos... is just doesn't seem to... catch my attention, I guess...

Man, Smisek seems very stiff lipped and uncomfortable in the UA merger video. He seems much more welcoming on the CO video.

I did get to meet both him and Kellner when I worked for CO. Both cool guys, but you could definitely tell Smisek is the more serious, colder, and agressive one of the two.

At least he's slightly easier on the guys than Kellner, I'll give him that.
